Movie Review: Ghastlies Will Tickle Your Funny Bone…Then Break It!

Ghastlies begins in a way I’m sure we can all relate to…namely with a U.F.O dispensing toothy aliens that bite the shit out of a Satanic cult…real human condition stuff. Following that lil’ slice of gravitas we are introduced to four sorority sisters who head off to a secluded cabin in the woods where, as you may have surmised, they too are plagued (eventually…more on that in ye olde third paragraph) by those same menacin’ monsters from beyond the stars. Can our comely heroines survive this night of teeth, claws, and dodgy puppetry? Ghastlies is exactly what it sets out to be; a fun throwback to the Gremlins clones (Critters, Hobgoblins, Munchies, Ghoulies…especially with that satanic angle mentioned previous) your’s cruelly absolutely loved in his misspent youth…aw screw it, we all know I still love ’em! You get blood, boobs, practical low-rent (read: gloriously rad) puppets, and a ton of goofy fun. The whole affair is cartoony, surreal, and a

Movie Review: Black Wake Deftly Combines Found Footage and Lovecraft Style Mythology!

Black Wake details the investigation of comely scientist Dr. Luiza Moreira (Nana Gouvea) who begins reviewing every scrap of video evidence concerning a rash of deaths occurring on various beaches near the Atlantic Ocean. As she presses on, Moreira finds shocking evidence that a monstrous prehistoric parasite may be responsible for the murderous mayhem. Complicating matters are a shadow organization that is following Moreira’s every move, a strange cult tied to the parasite (lead by a homeless man that may be Patient Zero of the outbreak), and the lil’ matter of the murder victims returning to life as violence crazed zombie-like beings! Can Dr. Moreira solve the case, survive the forces conspiring against her, maintain her sanity, and save the world? The greatest (though by no means “only”) thing Black Wake has going for it is a truly excellent sense of mythology and world building courtesy of screen writers Jerry Janda, Carlos Keyes, and Jeremiah Kipp (who also directed). Teaser Poster And Prequel Novel For ‘The Predator’

The upcoming fourth installment of the Predator franchise has fans excited with the promise that it will be gory like the first two classics and now with the teaser poster fans are even more excited…yes me included, I mean, look at it! The poster has been seen in IMAX theaters and gives the same electrifying feeling that reminds fans of the one scene from Predator 2 when the Predator stands on top of a skyscraper in LA during a thunderstorm triumphantly roaring as it’s struck by lightning and not even phased by it. For added hype for fans, a book said to be the prequel to the movie will be hitting shelves on June 5th. The book, The Predator: Hunters and Hunted will be released by Titan Books and will be written by James A. Moore. The book will be setting up the events leading to the upcoming film. Jake Busey who was one of the last to be cast

Movie Review: Cute Little Buggers is a Campy Sci-Fi Bloodbath!

Cute Little Buggers begins as any great culturally relevant piece of art would; namely with horny fish aliens (with British accents) flying down to Earth in their U.F.O. in an attempt to impregnate any human female they can possibly get their hands…err, flippers…fins…whatever…on. To achieve this they splice alien D.N.A. into the local rabbit population which causes them to become ultra violent mutant killing machines…you know something, is it possible to fall in love with a film…like real, human love…because I think that is happening to me right this very second… Moving on, we have the tale of a prodigal son returning to his bucolic hometown and rekindling a lost love as townsfolk begin being brutally slaughtered by those laceratin’ lepus. It basically becomes an all out fight for survival as the bunnies begin chewin’ folks a new asshole (and I mean that literally). First things first, Cute Little Buggers is a flick with it’s tongue very firmly in it’s

Movie Review: Skybound Should Remain Permanently Grounded

If you don’t have the time to read my review of Skybound, let me some it up for you in one sentence: “I have had it with these mother f**kin’ pretty people on this shitty CG mother f**kin’ plane!” There, use that as your pull quote; I dare you! Anyway, what is Skybound all about? Well, rich s.o.b. Matt takes his gal Lisa, along with the improbably named Odin (expect some real knee-slappery with this dolt) on his private jet to travel across country to take in a Vin Diesel movie (the words are starting to escape me). As the group treks on they have a few unexpected guests; Matt’s brother Kyle and a weird stowaway. Anyway, a bizarre phenomena on the ground results in the plane having to stay airborne…but the colliding planes make the sky just as dangerous. What will become of our heroes? What is the secret of the stowaway? How far into the eighty minute (including

Movie Review: Chicago Rot will Infect Your Brain!

After being wrongfully locked up for years, a bad ass (giant bullet holes in his chest don’t even slow him down) with a violent streak a mile long named The Ghoul is a free man once more. No one is particularly thrilled about this fact, and soon G-man finds himself B.D. in a mad search for the ones that F’d up his life six ways to Sunday. What follows is a Grand Guignol bacchanal of bloodsoaked revenge as The Ghoul descends deep into the underworld of Chicago…which seems rather cut and dried until strange beings begin speaking to our hero from within a mirror. Oh, and The Ghoul apparently has lost his soul and he’s on a journey to get it back. Along his journey we experience a multitude of surreal dimensions which characters can traverse with ease (and each time their appearance changes drastically…for example dig; this is a film where a street thug can hop through a portal

Movie Review: Flashburn is a Solid “End of Humanity” Sci-Fi Thriller

Flashburn concerns the misadventures of Wes, a dude that finds himself behind the wheel of a crashed pick-up truck located within the confines of a warehouse in a disease ravaged dystopian future. Ol’ Wes soon finds out he can not leave the structure, and that he has been brought here for a purpose; to devise a cure for the virus that is currently kicking humanity’s ass up and down the hall. As our yarn unspools Wes must contend with regaining his memory (he was a fancy-schmancy scientist type before becoming America’s favorite warehouse prisoner), finding a cure, discovering his ties to the virus, and dealing with the enigmatic ‘Lazarus’ who imprisoned him. I went into Flashburn expecting a low-budget thriller with some sci-fi trappings thrown on top (you know, the type of shit that seems to replicate by osmosis on SyFy channel), but I found myself pleasantly surprised. While the film may not have cost as much as Ye Olde

Extraterrestrials Invade VOD In ‘Alien: Reign Of Man’

Though not the xenomorphs created by legendary artist H.R. Giger and made famous by director Ridley Scott, Uncork’d Entertainment’s Alien: Reign of Man will bring us face-to-face with a new breed of hostile space-creeps. Alien: Reign of Man spins the tale of some sort of team working to activate some sort of machine to save Earth, while stranded on some planet, battling the titular aliens. From what I’ve seen in the trailer, the film appears to be an indie mockbuster somewhere in between Alien: Covenant and Interstellar. Directed by Justin Price (Dark Moon Rising), and starring Deanna Grace Congo, Torrei Hart, Khu, and Cameron White, the low-budget sci-fi horror comes to VOD August 1, with a DVD release slated for November 14, 2017. Though I’ve yet to see the film, I’m highly skeptical of its quality. Judge for yourself by watching the official trailer of Alien: Reign of Man below.

Sigourney Weaver Again Battles Otherworldly Menace In Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Rakka’

After Neill Blomkamp‘s failed attempt at adding a fifth installment to the ‘Alien’ franchise, the visionary sci-fi director announced the creation of his own film production company, Oats Studios. The first offering from the studio is the short ‘Rakka’, a gritty, post-apocalyptic alien invasion film set in the near future. The film opens somewhere in Texas, in the year 2020. From the outset, each frame absolutely oozes an ultra-bleak, dystopian atmosphere. The world as we know it is no more; in its place is a brutal hellscape in which nearly all of humanity (well, what’s left of it anyhow) is enslaved by a barbaric, if highly advanced species of reptilian extraterrestrials. The aliens erect monolithic mega structures used to generate an atmosphere suitable for their crops and breathing needs, and treat humans as test subjects, or pests to be eliminated. Though primitive in appearance, the aliens seem to possess telekinetic and telepathic abilities, allowing them to use mind control to

Stephen And Robbie Amell Have Teamed Up For ‘Code 8’

Principle photography has begun in Toronto on the sci-fi thriller Code 8 after raising $1, 722, 409 on Indiegogo. Starring and produced by cousins Stephen and Robbie Amell, the film is directed by Jeff Chan, Variety reports. Stephen Amell is best known for his role Oliver Queen/Green Arrow on the series Arrow, while Robbie Amell stars as Raymond/Deathstorm in The Flash series. Both series air on The CW. Fast and the Furious actor Sung Kang co-stars alongside Kari Matchett (Maudie), Greg Bryk (Fronteir) and Aaron Abrams of Hannibal. The film is set in a world where 4% of the population is born with varying supernatural abilities, but instead of being billionaires or superheroes, most “specials” face discrimination and live in poverty, often resorting to crime in a world now monitored by drones, guardians, and police. Robbie Amell’s character is struggling to pay for his ailing mother’s health treatment and is lured into a lucrative criminal world by Stephen Amell’s character,
