Netflix has ordered the new South Korean original series “The Silent Sea,” a sci-fi mystery thriller set in a future where Earth is running out of water, Variety reports. Based on Choi Hang-Yong’s 2014 short film who will be directing, the Netflix original will star Jung Woo-sung (“The King”, pictured) who will serve as executive producer. Woo-Sung and his management agency Artist Company developed the series that will begin production in the first half of 2020. The series follows a story of a group of Korean scientists who set off for the moon to retrieve unknown samples from an abandoned research station. “The Silent Sea” will be scripted by Park Eun-Kyo, who also penned the script for 2009’s Mother which won the Best Screenplay prize at the Asian Film Awards in 2010. Jung also stars in thriller Beasts Clawing at Straws premiering in February 2020.

18th century sleuth Detective K (Kim Myung-min) and his dumb-ass Doctor Watson surrogate cum sidekick Seo-pil (Oh Dai-su) travel the Korean countryside investigating a series of monstrous murders that perhaps have a preternatural cause…namely, folks are convinced vampires are roaming the land lookin’ for a fang bang thanks to bite marks on the ever growing number of corpses turning up. As the duo continue their investigation they discover that a rather gorg amnesiac (Kim Ji-won) may have a large part in the ghoulish goings-on. Will our erstwhile (and ridiculous) be able to solve the case with their jugulars intact? Let’s kick out the mother fuckin’ jams with the positives that Detective K: Secret of the Living Dead offers us. First of all, Kim Myung-min and Oh Dai-su as our bumbling heroes are one hell of a dynamic duo! Detective K: Secret of the Living Dead, marks the third installment of the popular South Korean action-mystery franchise, debuts on digital later this month. Kim Myung-min and OH dal-su reprise their roles as bumbling sleuths investigating a string of strange murders that suggest the work of vampires. This hilarious outing follows the hugely popular Detective K: Secret of the Virtuous Widow (2011) and Detective K: Secret of the Lost Island (2015) and also stars Kim Ji-won (Horror Stories), Lee Min-ki (Tidal Wave) and Kim Bum (Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon). “When a series of unusual murders occurs, Detective K (KIM Myung-min) and his partner (OH Dal-soo) are once again called upon to solve the case. South Korean creature feature Monstrum has snagged a rare distribution deal in China after years of Korean entertainment being banned in China, Variety reports. .Directed by Huh Jong-ho, Monstrum is said to be based on genuine historical records made during the Joseon Dynasty of a mysterious monster creature. “It’s the 22nd year of Jungjong. The plague has taken over Joseon, and fear runs rampant in the streets. When rumors of a vicious beast roaming Mount Inwangsan–called “Monstrum” by terrified masses–begin to spread, fear turns into panic. In order to quell the rising panic, Jungjong brings back his most trusted general Yoon-gyeom from retirement. Joined by his daughter Myeong, his right-hand man Seong-han, and royal court officer Heo, Yoon-gyeom sets out to find the mysterious creature.” The Chinese ban on Korean films, series, and other forms of entertainment came as a response from China’s disapproval of South Korea allowing the US to put its THAAD missile defense systems in the South

From director Huh Jong-ho (The Advocate: A Missing Body) comes this bloody tale set in 1527 during the reign of King Jungjong (who is a real historical figure). “It’s the 22nd year of Jungjong. The plague has taken over Joseon, and fear runs rampant in the streets. When rumors of a vicious beast roaming Mount Inwangsan–called “Monstrum” by terrified masses–begin to spread, fear turns into panic.
