Movie Review: Luz (2018)

Luz Carrara (Luana Velis) comes a-stumblin’ into a German police station, and over the course of an appropriately dark and stormy night we learn that there is something horribly wrong with L-dawg…perhaps Satanically so. Enter: Commissioner Bertillon (Nadja Stübiger) and her translator Olarte (Johannes Benecke) who decide to call in police psychiatrist Doctor Rossini (Jan Bluthardt) to make an attempt at solving the mystery of just why Luz is fucked up six ways to Sunday. Movie Review: Isabelle (2018)

Larissa and Matt Kane (Amanda Crew and Adam Brody) move on down to the bucolic town of Sarasota Springs where the livin’ is easy and nothing could ever possibly go wrong. And they lived a quiet happy life… The fuck they did…you see in among the whole “getting ready to start a family” bullshitery, Larissa meets her creepy as balls neighbor Ann Pelway (Sheila McCarthy) as her even creepier daughter Isabelle (Zoë Belkin) glowers down from a window above, and then immediately has a late-term miscarriage right there in the driveway (following which she sees her dead baby return to demonic life in her fevered dreams…seriously tacky movie, seriously tacky). Blu-ray Review: Scared Stiff (1987)

In the late 1800’s, a shit heel of a slaver named George Masterson (David Ramsey) is cursed by the poor souls he bought and sold…flash forward to the late 1980’s, and a Psychiatrist named David (Andrew Stevens) and his pop singer gal pal (and former patient), Kate (Mary Page Keller) move into that doomed a-holes house…what could go wrong? The answer of course is every fucking thing. Heralded by an abundance of natures most terrifying creations, pigeons…wait, fucking pigeons?!! Anyway, a few bad dreams and visions, some outre discoveries in the abode (read: centuries old corpses and a strange talisman), and yes, pigeons, lead to a voodoo monster terrorizing our heroes six ways to Sunday! While a bit of a slow burn in the actual horror department, Scared Stiff never became tedious for your’s cruelly (and the third act pay-off is an absolutely fantastic display of gooey, monster-packed practical effects wizardry and well worth the wait). TNT Celebrating Supernatural’s 300th Episode With A Fan Favorite Marathon

Very few series ever get more than a few seasons. That’s not the case for “Supernatural“. The epic series will soon celebrate its 300th episode which will feature the return of a much-loved character. To celebrate the occasion TNT is having a marathon featuring the top 25 fan-favorite episodes which will air from February 4th through the 7th! In the series, brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) lost their mother (Samantha Smith) to a mysterious and demonic supernatural force. Subsequently, their father John (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) raised them to be soldiers. He taught them about the paranormal evil that lives in the dark corners and on the back roads of America … and he taught them how to kill it. Jeffrey Dean Morgan Reunites With His “Supernatural” Family In First Look Images

Before Jeffrey Dean Morgan was Negan on “The Walking Dead” he was John Winchester, father to Sam and Dean on “Supernatural”. Now, he’s returning to “SPN” for the 300th episode and fans couldn’t be happier. Jensen Ackles who stars as Dean Winchester has teased that in the 13th episode of the season, “Dean is faced with essentially a genie in a bottle, and this is what he would truly wish for if his heart could speak.” Ahead of the landmark episode, titled “Lebanon”, which will air on Thursday, February 7th at 8 pm, we have a first look at the family’s reunion. A gang of home invaders, some local sad-sack kids…who’s ranks include Kerry (Eden Brolin) the local Chief of Police’s daughter…who like to go out into the woods and trip balls, and a new couple in town. What do these disparate factions have in common? Well they all get caught up in one of those ancient pacts that require human sacrifice every 25 years that are all the rage with the youths of today. Long story short; the kids are the home invaders, they set out to rob the new folks in town, and quickly discover those folks are not to be fucked with as they are practitioners of the dark arts, and as said, those arts require sacrifice…and more, as Kerry becomes impregnated by the cult. Jeffrey Dean Morgan Is Returning To Supernatural!

While Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been making a name for himself on “The Walking Dead” as Negan, “Supernatural” fans have been praying for his return as John Winchester, father of Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles). Well, someone upstairs has been listening because he’s back! Morgan is set to reprise the role of Poppa Winchester for the 300th episode, titled “Lebanon,” which will air on Thursday, February 7th at 8/7c. The last time we saw Morgan as John a decade ago in the season 2 finale when he escaped Hell to kill Azazel and avenge his wife’s murder. We’ve seen the character several times since, but as his younger self, but played by another actor, Matt Cohen.

Movie Review: Mandao of the Dead

Major league weird cat and heir to an award losing breakfast cereal “empire” Jay Mandao (Scott Dunn…who also wrote and directed the film) lives with his equally eccentric adult nephew Jackson (Sean McBride)…who sleeps in a tent within the apartment…yeah…Anyway, the night before Halloween, Jay has an out of body experience via astral projection which eventually leads our heroes to begin astral projecting slightly backwards through time to help a ghost avoid their murder. Absolute insanity ensues. Mandao of the Dead is one hell of a bizarre ride boils n’ ghouls. Everything from our off-kilter heroes…played with likable charm, even when Jay is being a tad on the gruff side and Jackson is being…Jackson, to the strange astral projection, time travel, and murder angles, and left-of-center humor all coalesce into a heady stew of engaging storytelling, solid world building, and just straight up fun. On the downside, the pacing of this film is equally as odd as the story itself.

Let’s be honest, everyone has heard the names Ed and Lorraine Warren, two of the most famous paranormal investigators to ever walk the earth. They are also the couple who have been the subject of The Conjuring franchise. But here’s something you may not know, on almost every single case they investigated they had assistants and techs to help them do their job, but we rarely hear from them. Short Film Review: Trick r’ Treat (2018)

Trick r’ Treat begins with a woman (Julie Landriault) finding a stack of missing children flyers on the windshield of her car. Later that night she receives a visit from some ghostly trick r’ treaters (Johnny Elston, Ricky Elston, and Daniel Elston) who may not be what they seem! Running a compact minute and thirty seconds (two minutes with credits), Trick r’ Treat is an effective lil’ supernatural shocker. Writer/Director Andrew J.D. Robinson presents the piece with an economy of storytelling, and with some fun cinematic touches. The first act is presented in stark black and white giving it a Night of the Living Dead vibe, while the second have is presented in warm colors…it’s well done and gives the two disparate acts a unique flavor. Also well done are the visuals for the trick r’ treaters themselves…simple sheets and a bit of make-up adds up to a palpable sense of menace from these terror tykes! Bottom line, Trick r’
