Movie Review: Witches in the Woods (2019)

A gaggle of goofs from UMASS, all of whom are engaged in a love triangle… even though some of them don’t realize it quite yet, head out for a weekend on the ski slopes. Fate however has other plans for our heroes, and one logging truck accident and it’s resulting detour tosses these folks balls-deep into Strandedville: Population: These Assholes. Of course this bit o’ bullshit goes above and beyond the threat of hypothermia, as seemingly supernatural occurrences send both tempers and neck hairs sky high. Korean Horror 0.0 MHZ Conjures An April US Release

The creepy AF trailer is here for the supernatural Korean horror film 0.0 MHz. Written and directed by Sun-Dong Yoo, and based on the comic by Jak Jang, the film explores a “bizarre psychological phenomena such as seeing ghosts. One day, five members of the club go to an abandoned house which is famous for paranormal activity. They summon the spirit using brain waves and try to hear a statement in person. That night, the true nature of the spirit fear reveals itself.” Myung-shin Park, Jung-Hee Nam, Yoon-young Choi, Shin Joo-Hwan, and Eun-Ji Jung star. 0.0 MHZ has conjured an April 23rd US release date. Need something to binge while in isolation? Sink your teeth into the complete 7-season series “True Blood“, created by Alan Ball, based on the book series by Charlaine Harris. HBO has offered up the entire 80-episode series for free, without having to subscribe for viewers in the U.S. which is available both online, on Now & Go apps, and through Prime. DVD Review: Ghost Killers vs Bloody Mary (2018)

The local school principal is eager to end the rumors that accidents that have befallen the student body as of late are the result of supernatural static comin’ straight from everybody’s fav monstrous mirror maiden; Bloody Mary! To that end he hires The Ghoulbusters (yes, they are called out on the name and their eerily similar logo); a squad of local ghost hunters (who fake all of their encounters ‘natch) hoping to score a shit-hot TV deal… and let’s not beat around the bush; these folks are pretty inept… some downright stupid in fact. Anyway, our faux-heroes totally release that dread dame from her looking-glass prison and soon she engages in a bloodbath the ‘busters’ are ill-equipped to handle! DVD Review: Amityville Island (2020)

A woman (Jamie Morgan) brings home a box of cursed items she picked up in front of that infamous residence down Long Island way, promptly gets possessed, and offs her entire family, DeFeo style. Flash forward, and our heroine is incarcerated and forced to participate in a felonious fight club with a fellow inmate (Danielle Donahue) which goes over like fart in a submarine, and the duo are shipped off to a private island containing bears, sharks, and mutant zombies, as they so often do, right cats n’ creeps? Anyhow, on said island, a small team of scientists are conducting all manner of eerie experiments and at the center of it all is our friendly neighborhood Psycho Mom, who’s inner demon can leap out and posses the local fauna (including a shark ‘natch) and populace… so you know things are going to go to hell (for some it could be literally) as science and the supernatural clash on the island

Those rascally rascals over at Arrow Video have gone and collected some choice cuts of J-horror and put them in one handy dandy creepy collection with the new One Missed Call Trilogy set and your’s cruelly is going to go through that shizz step by step! In 2003’s One Missed Call, Yumi (Ko Shibasaki) and her gal pal Yoko (Anna Nagata) experience a phone call from the future featuring Yoko herself sounding like she’s in some dire fuckin’ straits! to make matters worse, ol’ Yoko finds out she can’t fly when she takes a flying leap off an overpass on the date the call originated from, and more of Yumi’s pals fall victim to a similar fearsome fate! Hot shot New York City doctor Norman Boyle (Paolo Malco) takes over the investigation of a historical home down Massachusetts way started by his pal Dr. Petersen, who just so happens to have offed himself after making his mistress extinct. I certainly hope the former owner of the house had nothing to do with all that unpleasantness… Anyhow, ol’ Norm packs up his wife Lucy (the loverly Catriona MacColl) and his son Bob (who has been having all manner of weird psychic connections to the house in the form of communications with an odd little girl named Mae (Silvia Collatina)… which as strange as that is, doesn’t even come close to matching the blazing nonsense that is his voice in the English dub) and heads to Mass to take up residence in that dread dwelling. Movie Review: A Stranger Among the Living

Henry (Jake Milton) would rather spend his time in the limelight than enriching young minds. To that end, he plays hooky from work to go on an audition an inadvertently initiates Operation: Save Ass as a student goes hog wild shooting up the school. Soon, ol’ Hank makes like Haley Joel circa ’99 and seeing dead folk everywhere. This leads to a bit of the soul searchin’ bag as our hero has to deal with the voices of the dead and the worth of pursuing his desires… oh, and those ghost-toasties are quite miffed because our “hero” knew the shooter was a bit “off”, but never alerted anyone. Smooth move Ex-lax. A Stranger Among the Living is not your average ghost story boils n’ ghouls. Rather, what we get from writer/director Chris Moore is an atmospheric, Twilight Zone style slow burn (at times this works against the film as explained below) that teaches us that people can be haunted as
