Blu-ray Review: The Dead Zone (1983)

Schoolteacher Johnny Smith (Christopher Walken) has it tough; he’s been comatose for nigh on five years after a surprisingly milk-related car crash, and as soon as he wakes up he discovers his gal-pal Sarah (Brooke Adams) has shacked up with another dude, and he’s developed the ability to tell things about people’s lives by merely touching their hand. That had to be the milk’s fault… Now you may guess that Johnny would keep this new ability to himself, but he doesn’t… it’s just public knowledge our hero can do this amazing ass shit… so naturally folks begin showing up asking for all sorts of freaky favors like finding the local serial killer, or tutoring the young son of a wealthy fat-cat… well, that last part doesn’t have much to do with his arcane abilities, but it is his day job… until it isn’t because of those pesky powers. Speaking of which, that groovy gift of Johnny’s has a few surprises

Bill Skarsgard Is Creepy As Hell In The New “Castle Rock” Trailer

The first trailer for Hulu’s new series “Castle Rock” is here and it’s creepy as hell, but that’s only fitting seeing it’s from Master of Horror Stephen King and J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens). The trailer features Bill Skarsgard (It) as a mysterious and twisted prisoner in Shawshank Prison. “Castle Rock is this town that [King] made famous in all these different books; and these two writers, Dustin Thomason and Sam Shaw, came up with this incredibly cool, terrifying, weird, funny idea of a series, new story, that takes place in this town,” producer J.J. Abrams recently told Jimmy Fallon. “And all of these characters from Stephen King’s books sort of are peripherally involved. We pitched it to Stephen King. He went nuts for it.” Scott Glenn stars as Alan Pangborn who appeared in both Needful Things and The Dark Half, and Sissy Spacek (Carrie) as Ruth Deaver, the adoptive mother of the series’ lead character Henry (Andre

Stephen King To Get The Rights Back To Several Films Based On His Work

Stephen King had a busy week, as he was filing to get the rights back to several 80s films based on his work. As it turns out, the films in question are The Dead Zone, Cujo, Creepshow, Cat’s Eye, Firestarter and Children of the Corn. The question on many horror fans’ minds is “why”? One rumor is that King wants control of the rights free and clear so that he can use the characters in the upcoming Hulu series Castle Rock, helmed by J.J. Abrams. That would imply that the new show will include elements from the period of what some argue is King’s best work. Either way, Castle Rock is certainly something for horror fans to look forward to. Stay tuned here at horrorfuel.com for all the details on the upcoming series.

James Franco To Narrate Stephen King’s The Dead Zone

The Dead Zone, first released back in 1979, is a true classic. Following a man that wakes up after a coma to discover he has newfound abilities, the book is being released for the first time on audio book and will be narrated by Alien: Covenant actor James Franco, who also played the lead role in the Hulu adaption of King’s 11.22.63. The Dead Zone follows Johnny Smith, who awakens from a five-year come after a car accident to discover that he now has the ability to see people’s pasts and their future with simply a touch. Many would consider his ability a gift, but to Johnny it’s a curse. The story is a favorite from the Stephen King collection. There was also a television series adaption that ran from 2002 to 2007 starring Anthony Michael Hall, as well as several film adaptions, including the 1983 film starring Christopher Walken, all by the same name. The audio book of The
