Are you ready to pay tribute? The next installment of The Hunger Games franchise, Sunrise on the Reaping, hits theaters soon. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, October 28. Buy tickets early to secure your seats.

The Story and Returning Cast

Inspired by Suzanne Collins’ novel series, the sixth film, directed by Francis Lawrence, is set 50 years before the original trilogy. It marks the 50th annual Hunger Games. This specific tournament is known as the Second Quarter Quell. The brutal event features twice as many tributes forced into the deadly arena. The film serves as both a sequel to 2023’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and a prequel to The Hunger Games (2012)

Actor Joseph Zada stars as a young Haymitch Abernathy, who represents District 12. Mckenna Grace plays his fellow tribute, Maysilee Donner. Meanwhile, Ralph Fiennes plays the tyrannical President Coriolanus Snow. Jesse Plemons plays young camera operator Plutarch Heavensbee. Furthermore, Elle Fanning plays Capitol stylist Effie Trinket, while Kieran Culkin plays host Caesar Flickerman. The story centers on Haymitch as he navigates the violent games and discovers political corruption.

Previous Movie Recap

The last entry in the franchise was The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. That storyline focused on an eighteen-year-old Coriolanus Snow during the 10th Hunger Games. Snow acted as a Capitol mentor for Lucy Gray Baird from District 12. He fell in love with her and secretly cheated to help her win.

However, Capitol officials caught his cheating and punished him by making him a Peacekeeper. His growing ambition and paranoia eventually caused him to betray his closest friends. He ultimately turned against Lucy Gray to regain power. The film concluded with Snow beginning his dark rise toward becoming Panem’s future dictator.
