Theaters Get ‘Distorted’ This June

Theaters get Distorted, a thriller filled with paranoia and conspiracy, this June. Directed by Rob King (The Humanity Bureau), the script written by Arne Olsen (Repeaters), Starring Christina Ricci (The Addams Family, Sleepy Hollow), Brendan Fletcher (The Revenant) and John Cusack (1408, Cell), the film centers on “Lauren and Russel Curran who decide to move away from the bustle of the city and into the peaceful oasis of The Pinnacle, a coveted luxury condo boasting ultra-modern design, state-of-the-art features, and security systems. Lauren begins to suspect the building has a dark side and seeks the help of Vernon, an investigative journalist with an interest in a cyber conspiracy. Movie Review: End Trip (2018)

It’s just another night on the job for hapless UBER (or it’s rip-off cinematic equivalent) driver Brandon (Writer/Director Aaron Jay Rome) when he picks up his latest fare, Judd (Eric LeBlanc)…a charming professional photographer with nowhere in particular to go who explains that he is going through a messy break-up with his girlfriend after she discovered a dating app on his phone. Brandon and Judd become fast friends, and our hero agrees to help Judd fix his broken relationship. Of course if that were all there was to tell with this tale I wouldn’t be talking about it here at Horror Fuel now would I?!! Suffice it to say, there are shocking truths to be learned, and once they are found out, some serious shit will hit the fan! Movie Review: Goran (2016)

Pity poor Goran (Franjo Dijak); all he wants to do is drink (a lot), drive his cab in the tiny isolated snow bound Croatian village he calls home, and hang out in a cabin with his BFF (Goran Bogdan) gettin’ his soak on…but unfortunately, his non-stop nag of a blind wife, Lina (Natasa Janjic) makes that increasingly difficult. Things carry on as usual until Lina announces she is pregnant, which goes over like a fart in a submarine for our hero, as he believes the child may not actually be his, but rather his sauna sittin’ pal mentioned previous. Well push comes to shove (literally) with disastrous results, and after a chemically enhanced Birthday party things get completely out of hand (read: incredibly violent and oh so very, very wrong)! Movie Review: Selfie From Hell (2018)

When pro-vlogger Julia (Meelah Adams) arrives in the states from Germany to visit her cousin Hannah (Alyson Walker) she brings a few things along for the trip…like the ability to cry sideways, and a strange shadowy figure that haunts her selfies, oh, and let’s not forget the ability to send text messages without using her god damned phone because she’s seemingly possessed, and also some sort of infection (that one is reasonable at least)…seriously; I’d ask this bitch to leave about 2 millifarts (it’s a real measurement…and it’s mega short believe me…I’m a reviewer, I know things…) after she walked across my threshold. Movie Review: Downrange (2018)

A group of young friends are travelling down a deserted road when they suffer a tire blow out. Things play out mundane A.F. until suddenly members of our gregarious gang start ending up well ventilated courtesy of bullets exploding through their skulls via a hidden sniper. Now the day has gone from sunny to shitty, will any of the friends survive the afternoon, and just who the hell is shooting at them and why? Directed by Ryûhei Kitamura (Godzilla: Final Wars, Versus), Downrange is a tight, simply told piece of suspense cinema that not only looks great, but backs plenty of grizzly gore (and I do mean plenty) into it’s ninety minute run time. There’s also a really cool piece of synth score that kicks in around thirty five minute mark that would be right at home in any random ’80’s slasher flick. Movie Review: Accident is a Beautiful, if Lightweight Thriller

Two women on their way to a music festival hitch a ride with two dudes in a stolen car. Things get slightly rapey and the car goes a shootin’ down into a ravine, where our “heroes” become trapped in the overturned vehicle. Horribly wounded the gang tries to survive the night with little chance of rescue…but can they survive each other and the evil that greed can inspire? While the story line, as evidenced by my lil’ synopsis up there may be a bit lightweight (I actually would call it compact, streamlined, and uncomplicated), Accident more than makes up for it in visual panache. Director Dan Tondowski and Cinematographer Maxime Cointe have created a masterpiece (in the ‘looking good’ department that is) of long, unbroken shots and serpentine camera moves (both natural and digitally enhanced) that are rather astonishing at times, and they also manage to effectively dial it back once the protagonists become trapped within the confines of the

Movie Review: Valley of the Rats is a New Spin on the Beloved Giallo Genre!

I’m just going to begin this revoltin’ review by saying Valley of the Rats is one hell of a hard fright flick to review…but I’m going to do my level headed god damn best… The long and the short of the narrative goes as follows: A dude is accused of killing his girlfriend, but isn’t formally charged with the crime. So, that being the case, he rents a limo, and rides around town following leads and having philosophical debates with various shady dudes about the evil city and how it relates to existence. As more of the case is revealed via flashbacks, the narrative becomes loser, the dialog more sparse, and the end result is akin to having a fever dream while watching a classic giallo flick (think sex, violence, and symbolism in equal measure). I’m not going to beat around the bush here my creeps; Valley of the Rats is about as nontraditional a film as you will find.

Movie Review: Cold Hell is a Dark Thriller With a Unique Perspective!

Ozge (Violetta Schurawlow) has it tough all over; she’s a Turkish cab driver livin’ in Vienna which makes her about as popular as a fart in a submarine with the locals, and most of her family isn’t too keen on her either. As you may guess, this makes Ozge a bit anxious, so she heads to the local gym to kick dude’s asses up under their hats (as well as the occasional policeman or customer). As fate would have it, there’s a real sick ticket roaming the streets, torturing sex workers of the Muslim faith to death, and our heroine gets a glimpse of this madman (and vice-versa) as he makes like the wind and blows the scene after killing Ozge’s prostitute neighbor.
