Blu-ray Review: The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires (1974)

Professor Van Helsing (Peter Cushing) is teachin’ down China way when he finds himself books deep in the machinations of a cult of ass-ugly vampires adorned in golden half-masks and their army of zombie slaves…all under the control of a disguised count Dracula. Thankfully he joins forces with some face smashing martial artists/weapons experts and soon the battle to wrest control of the region from the legions of the night is on, but will the knowledge and strength of our heroes be enough to win the war? The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires is flat out fright flick brilliance, and contains a putrid plethora of astoundingly entertaining elements that’ll have fang bang lovers grinnin’ from ear to eerie ear! Let’s start with the gorgeous lurid colors on display; of which the beginning sequence where the Priest, Kah (Shen Chan), visits Dracula (John Forbes-Robertson…standing in for the noticeably absent Christopher Lee) in his castle in Transylvania to beg his help

Movie Review: Obsidian Curse (2016)

Party girl/junkie Blair (Karin Brauns) is sent to the big house for a year after being arrested while snorting coke off from a woman’s stomach, as one does. After being released from prison, she’s clean and sober, but she discovers her boyfriend Roberto has moved on and gotten married, and worse still…his new beau is her daughter’s new mother figure…and Blair’s time with her daughter is extremely limited and court supervised until she can find steady work…which will prove difficult with that prison record and all. Eventually Blair finds work as a tour guide in a large cavern…at least that’s what she thinks. In actuality she is lured to the cavern so an ancient witch can pawn off a curse on Blair and make her a magnet for all of the evil monsters in the world…of which there are a surprising number. Now she is in for the fight of her life to survive the ever attacking nightmare legions which

‘Vampyr’ To Be Made Into A TV Series

FOX21 and DONTNOD Entertainment have reached an agreement allowing FOX21 to make a television series based on the game, “Vampyr” that came out back in June. We believe it is a fantastic premise for a television show. This is a new and exciting way for fans of the game, as well as the uninitiated, to enter and engage with VAMPYR’S rich, deep story.” Says DONTNOD CEO Oskar Guilbert, “We cannot wait to see how the talented team at FOX21 will bring out the darkly atmospheric universe of our game into television.” We are delighted to partner with FOX21 for the adaptation of VAMPYR into a TV series. DONTNOD has created a uniquely dark, immersive world with deep narration, which has made VAMPYR already a modern video game classic.” Agrees Jurgen Goeldner, CEO of Focus Home Interactive. “Vampyr” follows the tale of Dr. Jonathan Reid who became a vampire during the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918 in which somehow many citizens

Movie Review: Sunset Society (2018)

The Sunset Society are a cadre of vampires (played by sunset strip rock icons such as Tracii Guns and Dizzy Reed…and Ron Jeremy?!!) who meet in an opulent mansion (the exterior of which is inexplicably realized through animation…we’ll get back to that in a paragraph or so) to drink the blood of strippers (apparently), and shoot the shit with their overlord Ace (Lemmy) and his mate Sophia (Phoebe Dollar). As that goes on, we also get some hoo-ha about some footage of the Society that has been secretly shot and is in danger of exposing the clan to the world of mortal men. Bodies are switched, blood is drank, and ropes are jumped… Where to even begin with the uneven ride that is Sunset Society…for starters, it is painfully obvious that the film is comprised of two separate elements that have been Frankensteined together to create a cohesive fright flick. The main meat of the narrative; a secret tape (supposedly

Decisions, Consequences, And Blood: Final Thoughts Of ‘Vampyr’

WARNING POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD! SKIP DOWN FOR FINAL THOUGHTS. After literal hours and days of playing, I’ve completed “Vampyr”. The game by DONTNOD Entertainment and Focus Home Interactive that’s a vampire tale told uniquely through the eyes of a “newborn” vampire and well-known doctor Jonathan Reid. Reid becomes an Ekon, a “vampire”, after returning home to London after serving three years in the First World War, the city is in the midst of the Spanish Flu epidemic. After becoming an Ekon, Reid accidentally kills his sister and vows revenge on the one who turned him into a creature of the night. Reid is sheltered at a hospital headed by a Doctor whose part of a secret society that studies and works with Ekons. While performing missions, Reid will encounter members of a vampire hunting group known as the Guard of Priwen who actively looks for “leeches” (a term they use to describe Ekons). The humans are not the only threat,

Making The Streets Run Red: Review Of ‘Vampyr’

DontNod and Focus Home Interactive gave me the opportunity to play their horror game, “Vampyr”. The game is about Dr. Jonathan Reid, a prominent surgeon who specializes in blood transfusions who recently has become a vampire. Reid is back home in London after the Great War and the Spanish flu epidemic has started to spread and vampires are joining in on the killing. The game is in third-person giving you the chance to see around your environment perfectly. As you explore London, you are able to use a vampire vision mechanic that allows you to see blood trails that lead you to find clues as well as little rat morsels you can eat! You can find hideouts where you can upgrade Reid’s weapons as well as his perks. The points you can use are where the main point of the game comes in, you can earn points by talking to people, investigations etc, but if you want a lot of

Zombies, Vampires Or Humans: Burying A False Meme

Oh the internet, you give us hours of entertainment and insight into the world around us. Sadly you’re also the home of the misinformed and the gullible. There’s been a meme circulating the web for years showing a gravesite with an iron cage covering it, quite peculiar indeed till you read the text that accompanies it. There’s a lot wrong with this meme. First off, the Victorians (1837-1901) were not as naive and terrified of the world around them as the generations before them. Many Victorians never heard of Vampires till in 1897 Irish author Bram Stoker published ‘Dracula’. After its publication, more Vampire stories showed up in works of fiction and still to this day. Zombies, the odds of a common Victorian knowing about Haitian or West African lore was slim. To a common Victorian, a Zombie was just someone who was brought back to life after being dead for some time; perfect example of this would have been

‘Salem’s Lot Sucks Like A Good Vampire Movie Should

Vampires Are Back “Barlow! He’s a vampire! He must be destroyed!” — David Soul, Salem’s Lot That’s a line of dialogue from the cheesy and absolutely fun 1979 mini series, ‘Salem’s Lot. While it comes nowhere near the elegance and terror of the Stephen King novel, it totally avoids the cynicism and emptiness of the 2004 remake with Rob Lowe and Donald Sutherland. When you have vampires, especially scary vampires, why is there a need for sexual predator fathers and teachers? This was not a subject of the book, so why did the 2004 remake need to add this dimension? It’s like the Amityville Horror films (which none, and I mean ZERO are good horror films) you have all these ghosts, why does the house have to explode or someone chases someone with an axe or commit incest? Aren’t the ghosts scary enough? At least the original 1979 B movie gave us a puking a nun and a wonderful hamfisted

THEM Episode 1 of Season 1 by M.D. Massey

THEM Episode 1 of Season 1 by M.D. Massey is a self described “paranormal post-apocalyptic thrill ride”. As with Champagne Jackson Kicks Zombie Ass, THEM immediately had some large shoes to fill by virtue of its tagline and book description. Description: THEM: Season 1, Episode 1 Scratch Sullivan is a professional monster hunter eking out a living after the zombie apocalypse. Z hunter, some would say… but he hunts more than just zombies. You see, there are deadlier predators roaming the badlands, where the fallout and some very nasty inhabitants have made it impossible for all but the bravest and most foolhardy to venture. Thing is, Scratch is happy enough with the odd job killing THEM and occasionally shacking up with his on and off girlfriend, Kara. But when a powerful vampire tips him off to a potential invasion of werewolves and zombies into the safe zone he protects, he’s forced to head straight into the heart of the deadlands
