‘Train To Busan’ Director Making ‘Hellbound’, A Supernatural Horror Series For Netlix

Director Yeon Sang-ho made waves with his 2016 hit zombie film Train to Busan, whose sequel Penninsula is on the way. Now, the director has a new project, a Netflix series titled Hellbound. The series is an adaptation of Choi Gyu-seok‘s Korean webtoon Hell, which tells of a group surviving under social chaos when a group of supernatural beings appear and condemn people to hell. A new religious group interprets them as the will of the divine. There is no release date announced as of yet, but we’ll keep you updated. In the meantime, check out the trailer for Peninsula.

The Four Horsemen Can’t Enjoy Retirement In Webtoon, ‘Apocalyptic Horseplay’

What do you get when you have a cantankerous motley crew like the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in retirement, a nosey journalist student, and the antichrist rolled into one story? You get the Webtoon Apocalyptic Horseplay by artist Boredman. The story follows Angela, a former journalist student who’s trying to make a name for herself by investigating a strange newspaper that only reports positive news. She soon finds that the authors of the paper are the Four Horsemen who have retired and renounced their ways and wish to live quietly in England. The discovery soon sparks unwanted attention from a secretive society of monster hunters and a child who is the antichrist. It should be noted that a couple of the characters who appear in Apocalyptic Horseplay have appeared first in another one of Boredman’s comics, Undeaded, which is another excellent Webtoon! ‘My Name Is Death’, The Perfect Dark Humor Webtoon

Again on Line Webtoon, I’ve discovered a little gem, a comic by Spanish artist Rumbo (Josué Rumbo) titled My name is Death. The comic follows the grim reaper himself and the shenanigans that arise as he works. Death himself looks a bit different from what we think of him, he’s a little guy with a wicked sense of humor that resembles Deadpool (who makes an appearance in one of the comics.) The comics are a perfect mix of silliness, pop culture references, and at times social commentary. When the series first started the drawings looked different but as the series progresses the drawings become cleaner (thanks to donations from readers) Overall, My name is Death is a funny little comic strip that updates weekly if you like dark humor, sarcasm, and even a little cuteness; this comic is for you! The Webtoon ‘Melvina’s Therapy’ Is Just What The Doctor Ordered

Webtoons.com is a fun site where comic authors can showcase their works to readers. I’ve been a reader on the site for a while and have found some really nice comics that tend to be the “slice of life” comedic variety but recently I’ve discovered a darker comic that I could not stop reading as soon as I started, Melvina’s Therapy by A. Rasen. The Webtoon is about a Psychiatrist name Melvina who helps her clients unlock their deepest emotional trauma to “help” them; yes I used quotations there because in truth she’s using her patients to achieve a nefarious goal of using their torment as nourishment for herself. The overall plot is dark and mysterious with each chapter having their own twisted plot. The stories remind me of some of the really good horror manga’s I’ve read in the past. The art is fantastic and what I really love about this comic is the attention to detail. A. Rasen

‘Pacific Rim: Amara’ Webtoon Launches Today

Set in the same universe as the films, Pacific Rim: Amara is the prequel to the upcoming film Pacific Rim Uprising. Legendary Comics and LINE Webtoon teamed up to distribute the prequel that’s co-written by Cavan Scott of the UK and Zhang Ran of China, the webtoon is illustrated by Chinese artist BigN. The story is about Amara, who will be played by Cailee Spaeny in the film, showcasing her struggles in post-Kaiju Santa Monaca after the invasion of the large monsters called Kaiju that come from the sea. Kaiju is Japanese for “strange beast” and is also the name of the popular film genre in Japanese cinema that depicts large monsters destroying large cities or fighting one another with humanity caught in the middle, the most famous Kaiju is Godzilla. The webtoon will showcase Amara’s adventures to making her own Jaeger, a large mechanical fighter capable of fighting the Kaiju in which a human is inside piloting the machine.
