Yesterday we reported that Jason Reitman is following in his father’s footsteps and directing the next Ghostbusters movie. Today, we have the trailer announcement as well as the first teaser trailer that hints at the return of an original.
Before you start stressing out, the movie will be a direct sequel to 1989’s Ghostbusters II. It will completely bypass the 2016 trainwreck.
The film is “set in the world that was saved decades previously by the proton pack-wearing working stiffs in the original 1984 movie.”
I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans,” the publication quoted Reitman as saying. “This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ’80s happened in the ’80s, and this is set in the present day.” Reitman said.
The Juno/Tully director co-wrote the script for Ghostbusters III with Gil Kenan (Monster House) and is aiming to start filming this summer. The movie will open in theaters in 2020.
