Kansas Governor Sam Brownback wants residents of the state to be prepared for a zombie attack. Brownback has announced that he will sign a proclamation today (9/30) designating October as “Zombie Awareness Month”. No, this is not a joke. The Governor’s reasoning behind “Zombie Awareness Month” is that if people are prepared for zombies they’re pretty much prepared for any disaster. If you think about it, it’s a clever idea to use the popularity of the zombie genre to get people prepared for real disasters.

In a statement Brownback said “If you’re prepared for zombies, you’re prepared for anything.” He continued “Although an actual zombie apocalypse will never happen, the preparation for such an event is the same as for any disaster: make a disaster kit, have a plan and practice it.”

The state emergency planning website will offer “preparedness challenges” to help people prepare, like lists of supplies, plans and will offer challenges through social media.
