Director James Wan has just filming ‘The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist‘. It has recently been announced that he will also be serving as producer for the movie adaption of ‘The Boy Who Drew Monsters’. Newline has hired Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing to pen the script for the film. Goldberg will also be serving as a producer.
The novel, by the same name, was written by the ‘New York Times’ Best Selling author Keith Donohue. The book follows a young boy who Asperger’s. The boy almost drowned several years before and has since developed agoraphobia. As a coping mechanism, he draws, mostly monsters. The boy’s illustrations begin to come to life, including the monsters he has drawn.
As someone who has a young family member with Asperger’s, I can only imagine the terror that the boy in the novel faces. For those of you who are not familiar with Asperger’s, let me fill you in. Asperger’s is a disorder on the autism spectrum. It is a developmental disorder characterized by greatly impaired social skills, repetitive behaviors, they also suffer from sensory overload, delayed speech and often avoid social situations. They do not suffer from mental challenges and are often extremely intelligent.
