The Conjuring 2, from director James Wan, the follow up to 2013’s haunting hit, is one the most highly anticipated movies of 2016. One the biggest draws to the film is that it is based on true events. The film, like its predecessor, is based on the investigations of famous paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga.
In the film the Warrens arrive in London in the late 1970’s, after looking into the Amityville Huanting, to investigate the intense paranormal happenings a single mother and her children are facing, known as the Enfield poltergeist. The film will also reveal the couple’s internal struggle of dealing with the paranormal world, the drain and the danger Lorraine faces with each investigation.
“You know, we’re a little older, a little wiser. But we still have that same drive. That’s the crux of the Warren’s position: what’s good for their family, and what’s good for their souls, and wanting to help people.” Wilson said about the sequel.
Like every claim of paranormal activity, there’s always been a doubt of authenticity. “Is it real?” Wilson said in an interview Yahoo. “We push that a lot further, because I think the skepticism is as important as the belief of the subject.”
Franka Potente, Frances O’Conner, David Thewlis, Naria Doyle Kennedy, Javier Jerins, Sterling James, Robin Atkins Downes, Simon McBurney, Madison Wolfe, Shannon Kook, Lauren Esposito and Steve Coulter star along side Wilson and Farmiga.
The Conjuring 2 will begin with the Warren’s investigation in to the Amityville haunting. The real case investigated the paranormal claims of the Lutz family, who moved into the home at 112 Ocean Avenue after the murder of the DeFeos. The entire DeFeo family was butchered around 6:30 PM on Wednesday, November 13, 1974 by Ronald and Louise’s eldest son, “Butch”, Ronald Jr. , who later claimed he was possessed. Butch murdered his mother, father, two brothers and two sisters. In September of 1977 Jay Ansona published a book that describes the haunting of the Lutz family. The book inspired the 1979 film The Amityville Horror, which was remade in 2005.
The Conjuring 2 will open in theaters on June 10th.
