Netflix has snagged the world rights to the zombie film ‘Cargo’ after only seeing a three-minute promo. Written and co-directed by Yolanda Remke and Ben Howling, ‘Cargo’ is currently in post-production.
The 2013 short film that inspired the feature film has had over 12 million views to date and is the first Australian film to fly under the Netflix Original banner.
The film centers on a father, played by Martin Freeman (The Hobbit), who is stranded in rural Australia after an accident with only 48 hours to find a new home for his baby daughter after he is infected by a pandemic.
Freeman stars alongside Anthony Hayes, Caren Pistorius, Susie Poter, David Gulpilil, and Simone Landers. Ian Kirk, Jeff Harrison, Craig Deeker, Fergus Grady, Phil Hunt, Ian Dawson, and Compton Ross serve as executive producers for the film.
Below is the short film that inspired the full length feature. Be sure to have Kleenex in hand, it is heart breaking.
