The fourth film of the Cloverfield franchise, Overlord, is now set to land this October, though it’s expected to be renamed by then.
During a discussion with Digital Spy, J.J. Abrams teased that the film is going to get a little crazy.
To talk about what the next one is and what’s going to happen sort of feels counter-intuitive,” Abrams told the site. “Overlord … first of all it’s something that I can’t wait for you to see cause the director, Julius Avery, has done an amazing job on it. But the specifics, you know, we should wait and see.But that’s really a crazy movie,” Abrams stated.
Set during World War II, Overlord, directed by Julius Avery, takes place “On the eve of D-Day, a group of American paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a mission crucial to the invasion’s success, but as they approach their target, they begin to realize there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. They find themselves fighting against supernatural forces, part of a Nazi experiment.”
Jovan Adepo (Fences), Wyatt Russell (Black Mirror), Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones), Dominic Applewhite (The King’s Speech), Pilou Asbaek (Game of Thrones), Iain de Caestecker (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), John Magaro (The Big Short), Mathilde Ollivier (The Misfortunes of Francois Jane), and Bokeem Woodbine (Fargo) star.
Cloverfield: Overlord will open in theaters on October 26, 2018, from Paramount Pictures.
