Director Nia DaCosta appears to have found his lead for his “spiritual sequel” to Bernard Rose’s 1992 classic Clive Barker adaptation, Candyman. Variety is reporting that Aquaman actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is set to play Candyman, a role made iconic by Tony Todd.
Produced and co-written by Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld, the sequel returns to the neighborhood where the legend began, the now regentrified area once home to the housing projects known as Cabrini-Green.
Candyman returns on June 12, 2020.
