Principle photography began a month ago on the new Jordan Peele-produced installment of the Candyman franchise. While the lead role will be played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (US, Aquaman), fans have been awaiting news who will be playing the Candyman. We reported back in May that Tony Todd would be returning but it was not known in what capacity.
Now, it appears Todd, who made the character a horror icon, will be returning as the man with the hook. The news came today and though it has not been confirmed by MGM, Bloody-Disgusting says they trust their sources when they say Todd will reprise his role.
Described as a spiritual sequel, the film is being directed by Nia DaCosta and was co-written and produced by Peele, based on characters by Clive Barker.
Teyonah Parris, Colman Domingo, and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett co-star in the film that will return to the neighborhood where the legend began, where Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood.
Candyman returns on June 12, 2020.
