DVD Review: Zombie Rampage 2 (2018)

Daniel XIII; the result of an arcane ritual involving a King Diamond album, a box of Count Chocula, and a copy of Swank magazine, is a screenwriter, director, producer, actor, artist, and reviewer of fright flicks…Who hates ya baby?

In the middle of one of them there zombie apocalypses (a more common occurrence than one would believe if our beloved horror biz is to be believed), a rag-tag group of survivors who’s ranks include, but are not limited to: a dude lookin’ straight out of the ’70s, a woman who continuously shoves people’s faces into her breasts, a rather fab zombie exterminator, and a school girl with a baseball bat.

The long and the short of it is, these misfits have to band together and form a fighting force capable of withstanding this horrific outbreak of living dead… so, there probably as good as fucked…

Make no mistake, Zombie Rampage 2 is an ultra-low budget affair, so you can take any expectations of Hollywood gloss, put in a box, and shove it right up your arcane ass. Now, as you lot know; that is aces with yours cruelly, and what this fright flick lacks in polish it makes up for with a whole heaping helpin’ of heart.

As you can infer, this is a zombie pic made by true fans of the genre, and these fine fiends set out to deliver the grizzly goods by any means at their disposal! You can expect oat-meal faced walking dead (think the shamblers populating the Italian gut-munchers of the ’80s), plenty of practical gore effects (with some digital blood spray here and there), and even a tit or two… all wrapped up in a narrative culled from footage both old and new, and admittedly not always copacetic.

It all adds up to a nice slice of cinematic lunacy that knows good and goddamned well that it is, in fact, completely ridiculous… and this should come as no surprise as it comes in part from from the psycho psyche of Todd Sheets, he of Bonehill Road and Clownado (both of which I reviewed here and here respectively).

Speaking of ol’ Sinister Sheets, Zombie Rampage 2 features some familiar performers from previous works by the arcane auteur including the always entertaining Antwoine Steele as Durville, and the ever-lovely Dilynn Fawn Harvey as Hot Stuff. These folks always seem to be having a great time in whatever role they are cast in, and this frightful feature is no exception.

On the downside, as I mentioned before, this monstrous movie is very rough around the edges, which can be a sore subject for those of you accustomed to more mainstream offerings from our beloved horror biz… and this DVD from the fine fiends at Wild Eye Releasing is sadly devoid of any special features save for trailers for other releases from the creepy company… but I would be remiss to mention that this flick begins with a faux trailer featuring some rather far out adventures for our main man Durville (that I would love to see as a full feature if the powers that be are listening out there)!

To sum up, Zombie Rampage 2 may not be the most technically proficient fright flick on the block, but it has heart, it’s fun to watch, and it makes you laugh with it, not at it, so get your gut munch on y’all!
