Back in August of 2018 Bruce Campbell, known for his iconic role as Ashley “Ash” Williams, announced to broken-hearted fans that he was hanging up his chainsaw and retiring Ash. Since then there have been rumblings that the franchise had life left in it yet.

Today, we can report not only that a movie is indeed in the works, but also the title and some plot details shared by Empire in the upcoming July issue. During an interview, Campbell reveals the first details of Evil Dead Now.

Sam Raimi, who wrote and directed the original 1981 film, has handpicked Lee Cronin to both write and direct the new movie.

It’s called Evil Dead Now. Sam handpicked Lee – he did a cool movie called The Hole in the Ground. We’re going to get that sucker out as soon as practical.”

Like Fede Alvarez’s 2013 Evil Dead, Campbell will not appear in Evil Dead Now.

From this point forward, they kind of have to stand on their own. Which is fine. And liberating. You should have different heroes, different heroines in this case.” Campbell went on to say, “We just want to keep the series current. And the mantra, really, is that our heroes and heroines are just regular people. That’s what we’re going to continue.”

We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
