Todd Sheets is one maniac mother fucker of a fright flick filmmaker that I’d follow anywhere… movie-wise, I’m not some deranged stalker after all. Anyway, I was pleased as putrid punch when Todd sent your’s cruelly his new picture for a lil’ bit of that revoltin’ review voodoo I do moderately okay-ish!
Final Caller concerns abrasive late night shock jock Roland Bennett (Douglas Epps), who’s show ‘On Through The Night’ is about to get a lot more interesting thanks to a lil’ ringy-dingy from The Outsider (Jack McCord); a druid lore addicted literal lady killer with a real hankerin’ for putting the slice n’ dice on the woman folk!
Of course Big O isn’t satisfied just chewin’ the fear fat over the telephone, and gets it in his head to make a personal appearance at the station… which puts a bit of a snag in the whole “let’s stay alive” thing the denizens of that building are so fond of!
Let me tell ya cats n’ creeps; Sheets (who wrote, directed, edited and even did effects for the film) has created one hell of a gore-drenched slasher for our eerie eyeballs to soak in with Final Caller!
A huge strength of this bit o’ horror biz comes from the performances, with Epps making for a suitably intense and gruff personality for the airwaves of the witching hour, and McCord absolutely dominates the proceedings as our often blood splattered antagonist… a real psycho with very strong convictions about the mayhem he’s rainin’ down! Additionally Rachel Lagen turns in a great performance, but to explain why it’s so choice I’d have to dive into spoiler territory, and that’s a road I’m not gonna travel!
Speaking of blood, this baby has it going on when it comes to the ol’ red sauce us horror hounds lap up like the demented demon dogs that we are. We get plenty of stabbing, bodily trauma, and all manner of viscera tossed about with wickedly wild abandon, and all realized with ghoulishly gory practical effects wizardry!
Also of note to fiendish fans of Sheets previous work, we get cameos from a few of his regulars including Antwoine Steele and Dilynn Fawn Harvey; so beastly bonus there indeed boils n’ ghouls!
Lean, mean, n’ full of screams, Final Caller is an in-your-face stalk n’ slay affair with plenty of grizzly gore and solid performances all around!
