Vampires Are Returning To The Limelight

Written by Ella Rebecca Horton

Ella Rebecca has been in love with the horror genre since an early age. The Bride of Frankenstein began her love of the classics and she's been writing and collecting since.

Vampires appeared to be all the rage at one point. Their influence in books and movies
was strong, but then, over time, they seemed to take a step away from the limelight and
back into the shadows. But thanks to the rising influence of horror in video games and
streaming services such as Netflix, vampires are returning to the main stage. And they’re
doing so in reboots of old classics.

Dracula

Dracula is arguably the most well-known vampire of all time, featuring in multiple movies, books, and games. The character has featured heavily all through our lives and has even managed to be the inspiration behind the successful NetEnt slot machine Blood Suckers.

2014 saw Dracula Untold hit screens around the world, proving there’s a determination to bring the famous vampire back to life. But, after an unconvincing reboot six years ago, the time appears right for leading director Karyn Kusama to create a movie, set in modern times, which makes Dracula the frighteningly good vampire he once was.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer

What can you say about Buffy The Vampire Slayer which hasn’t been sound countless
times before? It was one of the hit TV shows of the 90s, and, believe it or not, the series
was based on a film from earlier in the decade. The TV show was where it enjoyed the
most success, developing a cult following, so a reboot makes perfect sense. It appears
they will go down the same route with Buffy The Vampire Slayer again, with several
platforms vying to secure a deal to air it. However, it does look like Disney+ will be the best bet.

Bride Of Frankenstein

The Bride of Frankenstein in terms of legend is up there with the likes of Dracula. So, when vampires and the like are on the comeback trail, it’s no surprise to hear the iconic movie from 1935 is in line for a return in modern times. Bill Condon, who directed The Beauty and the Beast, is the man behind what appears to be a complex project.
He had Angelina Jolie in mind for the role of the bride, but after she opted to reject the
invitation, Gal Gadot is set to take up the mantle. It’s a massive task to bring Bride of
Frankenstein into the modern era. So it may take some time, but the hope is it will happen sooner rather than later.

Underworld VI

Underworld is a movie that has received mixed reviews over the years. But, it always
does a fantastic job in drawing in the crowds, and a reboot will have the same effect if
history is anything to go by. Selene is a vampire on a mission, and her target has always
been the werewolves known as Lycans.

The narrative of the movie has changed with each release, and with Kate Beckinsale
saying she won’t renew as the lead, everything is up in the air in terms of where the film
series goes next. The sixth installment is in the making, and the enforced changes could
give Underworld a new direction.
