It’s that time of year again, time to celebrate Christmas the best way horror fans can, with a bloody good holiday horror-themed movie. Let’s be honest, there are a ton of Christmas horror movies out there, but there’s a new movie that you should be watching, Blood Moon Picture’s 13 Slays Till-Xmas, the only horror anthology you need this season.
The film is from writer-producer P.J. Starks, the creator of Volumes of Blood, and producer Eric Huskisson (The Confession of Fred Krueger, VOB: Horror Stories). HorrorFuel’s Kelli Marchman McNeely executive produced.
It features thirteen Christmas themed stories of merry mayhem connected by a wrap-around. The massive anthology is set on December 24th, Christmas Eve, with five seemingly random men who are invited to a dive bar by a mysterious e-mail. They decide to pass the time by resurrecting the old tradition of telling scary stories on Christmas Eve. As each takes turns spinning yarns of yuletide terror it becomes evident, they may be harboring a dark and deadly secret.
13 Slays has a huge ensemble cast and a list of directors reads like the whos’ who of the indie horror genre (You can find a full list here). Each actor poured their hearts into their roles and it shows. And the directors all brought their own style and flavor, yet all the segments fit together flawlessly, connected by an interesting wrap-around.
What fans get is a little of everything from bloody kills, bad Santas, and serial killers, to Christmas decorations that come alive to strangle their victims to death. It literally has something for everyone!
We see a lot of horror movies released every year and with a ton of holiday horror movies already out there, getting a movie that is a fresh take on the holiday is a huge win for fans and that’s exactly what we get with 13 Slays Till X-Mas.
The filmmakers were located all over the world. Choreographing the segments from a distance must have been incredibly challenging, especially during the pandemic. Unfortunately, the pandemic did affect the film’s release date, delaying it until the first of 2021. But the good news it is now available for pre-order with its VOD, Digital, and DVD release to follow in the first of the year. Oh, and when you pre-order the movie you also get the soundtrack for free!
So, if you are wondering if 13 Slays Till X-Mas is worth watching, the answer is a big “YES”. Even if the holidays will have passed by its release. It’s a bloody fun flick with laughs, scares, and a whole lot of Christmas spirit.
