One of Disney’s most popular attractions is The Haunted Mansion. Deadline is reporting that Justin Simien (“Dear White People”, Bad Hair) is directing a new movie, written By Ghostbusters‘ (2016) Katie Dippold, about the ride for Disney.
The attraction, which debuted in 1969, “sees theme park guests go inside a spooky and creepy manor that has a wide array of supernatural frights. It also features a graveyard’s worth of characters.”
According to Deadline, “Insiders say this will be a completely different take as a film that stands on its own.”
Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich’s Rideback will be producing.
This isn’t the first time the attraction has been turned into a film, back in 2003 Rob Minkoff directed The Haunted Mansion that starred Eddie Murphy as a realtor. He, his wife, and children were summoned to a mansion, which they soon discover is haunted, and while they attempt to escape, he learns an important lesson about the family he has neglected. The movie also starred Marsha Thomason, Jennifer Tilly, Terence Stamp, and Nathaniel Parker.
Disney recently released a new behind-the-scenes look at the ride, check it out.
