A chilling twist is coming to America’s favorite monster family. Universal is reimagining the classic 1960s sitcom “The Munsters” with “1313.” The title is a not-so-subtle nod to the family’s iconic address at 1313 Mockingbird Lane.

This reboot promises a unique blend of the original sitcom’s zany humor with a dash of horror. Deadline reports that it is helmed by James Wan‘s production company, Atomic Monster, known for its chilling films like The Conjuring and Malignant.

The series is directed by Lindsey Anderson Beer, who we interviewed about her horror prequel Pet Sematary: Bloodlines.

1313” reimagines the sitcom that captivated audiences for two seasons (1964-1966) and continues to entertain. The original series offered a satirical look at 1960s American suburbia through the eyes of a lovable monster family.

The series centered on Herman (Fred Gwynne), his vampire wife Lily (Yvonne De Carlo), their werewolf son Eddie (Butch Patrick), and Lily’s vampire father Grandpa (Al Lewis). Their “normal” cousin Marilyn (Beverley Owen and later Pat Priest) added another layer of humor, highlighting the family’s unconventional perspective.

This isn’t the first attempt to resurrect the series. There’s the “Munster, Go Home” (1966), “The Munsters’ Revenge” (1981), and “The Munsters Today” (1988-1991 sitcom). Most recently, Rob Zombie reintroduced “The Munsters” to a new generation in 2022.

A unique horror-comedy blend and talented team behind the scenes, “1313” promises to be a fresh take on “The Munsters” iconic legacy. Stay tuned for further developments. In the meantime, you can watch the original “Munsters” series on Peacock.
