Get ready for a terrifying trip back to the 1980s. Director Dillon Brown‘s latest indie horror film, The Summer We Died, is set to make its world premiere at the Skate or Die Film Fest this October.
Combining the nostalgic charm of “Saved by the Bell” with the blood-curdling tension of classic slasher films, The Summer We Died offers a fright-filled experience.
In a town gripped by fear after a series of brutal murders, a strict curfew is imposed. This threatens to extinguish the last sparks of summer for a group of rebellious teens. Defying the curfew, they embark on a dangerous adventure, only to find themselves caught in a deadly game with the “Moonlight Killer.”
The cast includes Hannah Welty, Mandy Morgan, Grace Winters, and Michael Rock. Zoogie Austin, John Potash, Brian Lee, Annie Lain, and Hector “Nomar” Mendoza round out the cast.
Director Dillon Brown, known for his Bigfoot found footage franchise, Tahoe Joe, brings a fresh perspective to the slasher genre. While The Summer We Died pays homage to 80s horror, it also infuses the story with angst and teenage rebellion. Brown aims for the movie to feel both familiar and new. He sets out to capture the essence of classic slashers while resonating with today’s youth.
The Summer We Died features practical gore effects, enhancing its classic slasher feel. The film’s soundtrack features music from the band Acid Box and echoes the raw energy of punk rock and skateboarding.
The film is already generating buzz and will make its World Premiere at the Skate or Die Film Fest this October. We’ll let you know when the release date is announced.
