Grief is a tricky thing. Some people take up knitting, some go to therapy, and others… accidentally summon a bloodthirsty demon while trying to resurrect their murdered bestie.
If you are looking for the perfect Tuesday night fright, Lionsgate has you covered. The wild, witty, and deeply unsettling new horror-thriller My Best Friend’s Dead officially lands TODAY, May 26, 2026, on Demand and on Digital platforms!
Don’t Mess with the Dead
Set against the eerie, isolated backdrop of a remote New England town, the story follows a sweet young woman who has completely shut herself off from the outside world following the tragic murder of her best friend.
Paralyzed by grief and loneliness, she decides to take matters into her own hands by attempting a supernatural resurrection to bring her soulmate back from the grave. Spoiler alert: it goes horribly wrong.
Instead of her beloved friend, she accidentally invites an ancient, malicious entity into the real world. The demon anchors itself to her psyche, transforming her quiet, sleepy borough into a terrifying, inescapable hellscape. It’s a clever, modern horror story that pulls double duty as a monster movie and a sharp exploration of isolation and delusion.
The Cast & Crew
The film is written and directed by indie horror veteran Bruce Wemple (The North Witch), who knows exactly how to craft a thick, claustrophobic atmosphere from isolated woods and small towns.
To bring the terror to life, Wemple has assembled a stellar ensemble cast of genre favorites. Caitlin Duffy (Good Trouble, The Tomorrow Job) stars alongside Anna Shields (The North Witch, Dawn of the Beast), Dylan Grunn (The Retreat, Monstrous), and Catharine Daddario (IF, The Tomorrow Job).
Watch it Tonight
If you’re a fan of supernatural thrillers that mix psychological dread with creature-feature chaos, My Best Friend’s Dead is a total no-brainer. It serves up plenty of R-rated violence, sharp dialogue, and a reminder that sometimes, letting go is much safer than digging up the past.
Fire up your favorite digital store, dim the lights, and stream it now—just be careful who you invite over for movie night.
