Let’s be honest: flying commercial in the modern era is already a universally dreaded test of human endurance. Between the disappearing legroom, the aggressive baggage fees, and the passengers who think it’s acceptable to take off their shoes, it is a miracle anyone survives a cross-country commute with their sanity intact.
However, a terrifying new genre-bending thriller is about to make your worst airport delays look like a five-star luxury spa day.
The first official trailer has just landed for Black Box, an upcoming unearthly horror-thriller from AURA. The film promises to take a standard, utterly mundane domestic flight and violently shred it into a relentless, claustrophobic gauntlet of pure cosmic chaos.
Welcome to 30,000 Feet of Pure Hell
The movie’s premise kicks off simply enough with a routine, completely ordinary cross-country commute. Naturally, because this is a horror film, things go sideways almost immediately after takeoff.
Through a sudden series of utterly inexplicable phenomena, the cabin descends into total anarchy. The narrative quickly and aggressively blurs the traditional boundaries between stark reality and a surreal, waking nightmare.
To survive the trip, the trapped passengers must band together against seemingly insurmountable odds. They must combat a cascading nightmare of bizarre technological malfunctions. As if failing instrumentation weren’t enough, they also face accelerating supernatural events and outright malicious alien influences. It is safe to assume that nobody on this particular aircraft will be getting their complimentary ginger ale.
The Creative Team at the Controls
The project is being steered by a filmmaker who knows a thing or two about engineering highly creative, deeply stressful cinematic deaths. Steven Quale is running the show behind the camera. Horror aficionados will fondly remember him as the mastermind behind Final Destination 5, a film that features some of the most suspenseful and inventive set pieces in modern horror history. If anyone can turn an airplane cabin into a brilliant theater of dread, it is Quale.
An Ensemble Ready for Cosmic Turbulence
Quale has assembled a stellar, remarkably eclectic cast of rising stars and recognizable television talent to endure the mid-air madness. The roster of travelers includes Tom Brittney, Holly White, and Betsy-Blue English. They are joined by Dane Whyte O’Hara and “Brigerton’s” Kaja Chan.
Terminal Arrival Details
Fortunately, you will not have to brave crowded airport terminals or expensive movie-theater popcorn to see this nightmare unfold.
Black Box is bypassing the traditional theatrical release window entirely. Instead, the film will launch directly into your living room when it arrives on VOD on July 7th.
