When it comes to films, one of the most important jobs behind the camera doesn’t get the credit it deserves. I’m talking about the editors who take a string of shots and images and turn them into the movies we know and love. It’s not an easy job, and it truly makes a film what it is.

I was excited when I got the confirmation that I would be sitting down with film editor Brian Philip Davis. The man knows horror. After all, he served as editor for some great films, including the vampire movie Boys from County Hell. And he recently reunited with Oddity filmmaker Damian McCarthy for Hokum, one of the biggest horror films of the year. And if you’ve seen it, you know exactly why I’m so excited about it. If not, you should check out my review in which I called it “creepy AF” and a “must-see.”

In Hokum, Adam Scott (Severance) stars as Ohm Bauman, a reclusive horror novelist suffering from severe writer’s block. Looking for an ending to his book—and some emotional closure—he retreats to a remote, extraordinarily dreary Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes. Instead of creative inspiration, the local staff serves up terrifying legends about an ancient witch residing in the honeymoon suite, and the disappearance of an employee, forcing Ohm into a claustrophobic confrontation with his own dark past, a killer, and things that go bump in the night. Watch it now on Digital and VOD.
