Just when you thought the summer movie slate had exhausted every possible way to terrify you with water, a new shark nightmare, The Devil’s Mouth, is ready to bare its teeth.
The highly anticipated survival thriller The Devil’s Mouth is officially out today! To celebrate, Prime Video has dropped a brand-new official poster that teases a claustrophobic, pitch-black fight for survival.
A Cave Dive From Hell
The movie follows five friends as they set out on one final, sun-drenched adventure along Thailand’s gorgeous coast. Eager for a last thrill before parting ways to join the “real world,” they head out on a guided swim. Their destination? A remote, labyrinthine cave system known as The Devil’s Mouth.
The natural wonder is as breathtaking as it is unforgiving. Their excursion quickly takes a terrifying turn. The group discovers that a freak storm from the previous week has completely flooded the caves with ocean water. While most of the displaced marine life perished in the sudden shift to freshwater, something massive and highly predatory survived the deluge.
Trapped in the suffocating darkness of narrow, flooded waterways, the friends find themselves hunted. They are stalked by a silent, deadly, and fast beast. As their sense of direction slips away and oxygen runs low, panic spreads, and trust erodes completely. Making it out alive becomes a savage game of survival.
The Cast: Rising YA Stars Facing the Deep
The Devil’s Mouth boasts an impressive, young ensemble cast perfectly suited for a high-tension summer thriller. The cast includes Kathryn Newton (Ready or Not 2), Lana Condor (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before), and Gavin Casalegno (The Summer I Turned Pretty). Nico Hiraga (Booksmart), Tommi Rose, and Tayme Thapthimthong round out the cast.
Behind the Camera: High-Concept Pedigree
The film is directed by Jeff Wadlow, who has a talent for intense films (Truth or Dare, Imaginary). The project itself has a stellar creative lineage; it began life on the Hollywood Black List under the title Apex, written by Aja Gabel and Myung Joh Wesner (Star Wars: Skeleton Crew), before Wadlow stepped in to revise the script.
The film also features a booming, atmospheric score composed by the legendary Bear McCreary (Godzilla: King of the Monsters, The Walking Dead).
