Get your hex bags ready and your escape vehicles gassed up. The bayou is about to host one hell of a dangerous heist.
The Southern Gothic horror-comedy The Hoodoos is officially gearing up for its red-carpet film premiere. Where? At the Historic Manship Theatre inside the Shaw Center for the Arts in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on August 14, 2026, at 7:30 PM.
Based on the pulse-pounding novel of the same name, this feature is from filmmaker Sean-Michael Argo (Sineater). He blends heist action with dark, regional folklore. Audiences can catch their first glimpse of the bayou-born nightmare by viewing the newly released official trailer below.
Confederate Gold and Clout-Chasing Clerics
The story follows a crew of career criminals recruited by a shadow-dwelling crime lord known only as “The Captain.” The gig? A heist deep in the murky Teche bayou. Their objective seems simple enough: breach a crumbling, long-abandoned plantation house and escape with a fortune in hidden Confederate gold coins.
However, there’s just one tiny catch. The treasure is locked behind ancient Vodoun spells. The kind of heavy-duty magic that no self-respecting local practitioner will touch with a ten-foot pole.
So, desperate to crack the supernatural security system, the crew does what any modern criminal syndicate would. They kidnap a low-rent voodoo social media influencer to bypass the magic. Unsurprisingly, exploiting sacred rituals for quick cash goes horribly wrong. The crew, however, quickly finds itself trapped inside the plantation. A terrifying entity that has been waiting in the dark for a fresh set of victims.
An Indie Ensemble
Argo has assembled a stellar indie cast that perfectly embodies Louisiana’s eccentric flavor. The cast includes Celeste Blandon, Sean-Michael Argo (pulling double duty as a filmmaker and star), and Garrett Andrew Ahrens. B. Dave Walters (Dungeons & Dragons: A Darkened Wish) and Ashton Leigh (Ambush) join the fray.
If you’re a fan of swampy atmosphere, quick-witted banter, and practical monster effects that aren’t afraid to get a little bloody, The Hoodoos is shaping up to be a perfect late-summer treat.
Check out the spooky, action-packed trailer below, and grab your tickets for the Baton Rouge premiere before the gold runs out!
