For months, horror fans have been listening closely to the rumor mill. They have been piecing together casting leaks that hinted at a massive family reunion for the lucky 13th installment. While long-running rumors suggested a full return to the fan-favorite Coven universe, Murphy just set the record straight. And it’s so much bigger than that.

Speaking at the premiere of his new series The Shards, Murphy revealed massive news to Entertainment Tonight. That season isn’t just revisiting one iconic chapter—it’s crossing over the entire franchise.

“Everybody thinks it’s a Coven season. It’s not. It’s all seasons,” Murphy teased. “They all come together to defeat the ultimate evil.”

Multi-Role Madness: Lange, Paulson, and Peters Are Back

If you thought playing two characters in a single season was impressive, prepare to have your mind melted. Murphy confirmed a jaw-dropping return-to-form for the series’ ultimate heavy hitters:

Sarah Paulson is set to juggle a staggering six to seven rolesJessica Lange makes her triumphant return, stepping back into the shoes of all four of her iconic past charactersEvan Peters is taking on five separate roles. But that’s not all. Franchise royalty Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, and the legendary Angela Bassett are all officially locked in.

Getting Lange back into the fold was a victory in itself. “I pitched Jessica Lange, and she was like, ‘Oh shit, now I have to do it,’” Murphy laughed. “It’s all of them in one season, and it’s 13 episodes because it’s called ’13.’ I spent many, many months and many years writing it. I wanted to do ’13’ in a special way.”

Fresh Faces and High-Profile Cameos

Alongside the returning icons, Season 13 is rounding out its massive ensemble with Love Story breakout Paul Anthony Kelly, cult cinema legend John Waters, and Joey Pollari. Pop superstar Ariana Grande was originally slated to appear, though scheduling conflicts with her Eternal Sunshine tour forced her to bow out.

With thirteen episodes of pure, unadulterated multiversal horror, this is shaping up to be the ultimate love letter to two decades of “AHS” history.
