Fantastic Fest is officially heading back to its home at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar from September 17 to 24, 2026. The Austin-based festival promises a week stacked with world premieres and major releases. And let’s not forget, the kind of unhinged, obscure discoveries that keep die-hard genre fans coming back year after year.
An Apocalyptic Nightmare from Horror Royalty
Among the jaw-dropping slate of films hitting the big screen this year, one title immediately demanded our attention: The Glorious Dead.
The project marks another wild entry from the fiercely independent Adams Family. They are the creative clan behind many modern indie-horror darlings. That includes The Deeper You Dig, Hellbender, Where the Devil Roams, and Mother of Flies.
Chasms, Creatures, and Cosmic Dread
The premise for The Glorious Dead sounds gloriously unhinged. In the film, a small-town sheriff and her deputy awaken to discover the world has fractured into an apocalyptic hellscape overnight.
Violent, bloody chasms have torn through the earth. All while horrifying monstrosities forged from raw flesh roam the barren landscape. And the dead have decided they are done staying in the ground.
A Family Affair
As always, the film is a family affair, with John Adams and Toby Poser pulling triple duty, writing, directing, and starring alongside their daughters, Zelda and Lulu Adams. The Macaluso family, Sofia, Mia, Niki, and Heath Macaluso also star.

Having previously interviewed John and Toby, I can personally attest to the deep passion and dark imagination they pour into every frame of their films. If their past work is any indication, festival-goers are in for a visceral, bone-chilling ride that will leave a lasting mark.
