Samuel L. Jackson and Eva Green are about to play a deadly game of marital chess, and the rest of the world has already bought front-row tickets.
Highland Film Group has obtained all-media international distribution deals for its upcoming high-stakes thriller, Play Dead. With a pedigree that connects Pulp Fiction to James Bond, the film is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated indies of the year.
Till Death Do Us Part
The film kicks off with criminal mastermind Jack Wolfe (Jackson) finding himself hopelessly cornered by the Feds. Naturally, his exit strategy is a light spot of insurance fraud. He plans to fake his own death, secure a cool $30 million payout, and disappear into the sunset with his “grieving” wife, Nora (Green). To keep the heat off their trail, the couple decides to frame Nora’s less-surfer-boy lover, Chad, for the “murder.” There’s one hitch in the plan: Nora doesn’t want to fake anything.
Instead, she decides it would be much simpler, actually, to kill Jack. And frame Chad anyway, and keep the entire $30 million for herself. As their meticulously crafted lies unravel, the film spirals into a razor-sharp cat-and-mouse battle of wits in which husband and wife try to outsmart each other permanently.
A Bond-Level Creative Reunion
The project boasts a powerhouse creative lineup that knows exactly how to handle slick, explosive tension. Martin Campbell (GoldenEye, Casino Royale) is in the director’s role. The film marks a reunion for Campbell and Casino RRoyale’sLynd, as well as Eva Green. The script was penned by Dan Gordon, who wrote Rambo: Last Blood.
Joining Jackson and Green is Maria Pedraza, a breakout star from Netflix’s Money Heist phenomenon.
The exact release date for Just Play Dead has yet to be announced; it’s likely to be before the end of the year.
