The internet’s favorite campfire circle has struck again. Director Drew Hancock—who is already generating buzz with his thriller Companion—is officially stepping behind the camera. This time it’s for the new horror film titled Seasons for Amazon MGM Studios.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hancock’s script is adapted from a viral short story by Matt and Harrison Query. It first terrified Reddit users. If that premise sounds vaguely familiar to the internet community, that’s because the project was originally announced under the much more literal, real-estate-heavy title, My Wife and I Bought a Ranch.

HOA Fees Are the Least of Their Problems

For those who haven’t scrolled through the original thread, the official synopsis for Seasons promises a deeply disturbing tale. The film follows a husband and wife who buy their absolute dream ranch. However, they quickly discover that the picturesque land is crawling with ancient spirits. As it turns out, surviving the mortgage means submitting to increasingly disturbing supernatural rituals with each turn of the season.

Lily James will star as the wife, meaning she gets to spend her onscreen time dealing with demonic property lines instead of enjoying rural tranquility. It’s the ultimate cautionary tale about skipping the home inspection.

The Powerhouse Production Team

With a pedigree like this, the film is practically guaranteed to deliver some top-tier nightmare fuel. The project is being produced by the horror super-team of 21 Laps (“Stranger Things”), Blumhouse (M3GAN, The Purge), Atomic Monster (The Conjuring universe), and 12:01 Films.

With the combined forces of James’ star power, Hancock’s directing, and the kings of horror backing it, Seasons is shaping up to be a wild ride into madness. Just remember: if a piece of land looks too good to be true in this economy, it probably requires a blood sacrifice.
