Robert Eggers’ highly anticipated medieval creature feature Werwulf has officially unveiled its new trailer, offering a chilling first glimpse at a dark time when the land is plagued by illness and death. A time when a great, bloodthirsty beast stalks the land. Shedding decades of slick modern cinematic clichés, Eggers reconstructs the legendary beast from its darkest, most primal folk-horror roots.

Set against the bleak, unforgiving landscape of 13th-century England, the narrative follows an ancient apex predator terrorizing the countryside, turning medieval superstition and paranoia into a living, blood-soaked nightmare.

Eggers Recombines Powerhouse Genre Talent

True to his signature style, Eggers has assembled an elite ensemble featuring both frequent collaborators and acclaimed genre heavyweights to navigate the dark ages. The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily-Rose Depp, reteaming with the director following their work on Nosferatu. Joining them is Willem Dafoe, delivering another unhinged, hypnotic performance reminiscent of his work in The Lighthouse, alongside Ralph Ineson, whose gravelly presence helped anchor The Witch. Rising talent Bodhi Rae Breathnach also joins the cast, guaranteeing a feature steeped in meticulous historical detail, authentic period dialogue, and suffocating atmosphere.

A Bleak and Bloody Holiday Release

Focus Features is bringing Eggers’ latest nightmare to the big screen just in time for the holidays, setting a nationwide theatrical premiere for December 25. A stark contrast to traditional holiday fare, Werwulf promises an unyielding, beautifully crafted cinematic experience that pits medieval humanity against the ultimate nocturnal predator.

While the new trailer clawed its way onto screens today, a new teaser has also bared its teeth. Watch it below.
