The first look at Mike Flanagan’s upcoming “Carrie” series has arrived, courtesy of IGN. It offers horror fans a captivating glimpse into the dark coming-of-age story at the center of his new Stephen King adaptation. In the newly released clip, Carrie White (Summer H. Howell) storms away from her fanatical mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan), slamming a heavy door using her telekinetic abilities. As a subtle smile creeps across her face, Carrie realizes the true extent of her new gifts. And that she no longer needs to fear the woman who has controlled her entire life.
Updating Stephen King’s Classic to the Digital Age
Prime Video is serving up a fresh, blood-soaked coronation with an ambitious eight-episode event series helmed by modern horror and Stephen King expert Mike Flanagan.
Following the sudden death of her father, Carrie White is thrust out of her isolated upbringing by her zealot mother. Carrie is now thrown directly into the ruthless ecosystem of high school. There, she is forced to navigate viral bullying and relentless harassment, all as her terrifying powers begin to manifest.
Expanding the Lore With King’s Blessing
Rather than delivering a simple remake of Brian De Palma’s legendary 1976 feature film, Flanagan uses King’s original debut novel to examine how modern technology amplifies cruelty, isolation, and teen anxiety. Serving as writer, showrunner, and director for four episodes, Flanagan works closely with King, who serves as an executive producer.
A Star-Studded Cast of Horror Royalty
To bring this expanded vision to life, Flanagan has assembled a powerhouse ensemble featuring both trusted collaborators and genre icons. Summer H. Howell (Curse of Chucky) steps into the title role as Carrie White. Flanagan regular Samantha Sloyan (The Fall of the House of Usher) plays her mother, Margaret. Joining them in the halls of high school are Siena Agudong and Alison Thornton. Joel Oulette joins them along with Josie Tota, Arthur Conti, and Thalia Dudek.
The faculty lineup brings equal star power to the screen, with Amber Midthunder (Prey) portraying supportive gym teacher Miss Desjardin and horror royalty Matthew Lillard (Scream, Five Nights at Freddy’s) taking charge as Principal Grayle.
The Premier King Collaborator Strikes Again
Having previously directed acclaimed adaptations like Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, and The Life of Chuck, Flanagan has solidified his reputation as one of the best. Backed by King’s official stamp of approval, Prime Video’s “Carrie” is poised to be one of the season’s biggest television events when it hits the platform on October 7th.
