A feature film adaptation of the notoriously violent comic book series Crossed is coming. The Sadness filmmaker Rob Jabbaz is directing. The original comic creator Garth Ennis wrote the screenplay based on the first ten issues illustrated by Jacen Burrows.
It’s hard to believe, but Crossed is more brutal than either “The Boys” or “Preacher,” and that’s saying a lot. Genre fans can now catch their very first preview with the release of a red-band teaser trailer.
Dystopian Storyline and Terrifying Villains
The dark narrative centers on a mysterious contagion that causes victims to develop a cross-shaped rash on their faces. It triggers the infected to act out their most horrific impulses. Unlike traditional slow-moving zombies, these infected maniacs retain their human intelligence while indulging in uninhibited violence and torture. A small group of survivors must stick together to survive as they attempt a dangerous trek north to escape the chaos.
Ensemble Cast and Survival Characters
Devin Druid and Ash Santos star as Stan and Cindy, two leaders fighting to keep their fellow survivors alive. The supporting group of escapees includes Ethan Jones Romero, Kyla Hee, Chido Nwokocha, Spenser Granese, Bob Morley, Ana Mulvoy Ten, Steven Hack, and Lorenzo Ross. Meanwhile, Owen Harn portrays the terrifying villain leading the infected horde, accompanied by Fedor Steer and Kelvin Adekunle as key nightmare figures.
About the Comic
Writer Garth Ennis and artist Jacen Burrows created Crossed in 2008 for Avatar Press. It began as an apocalyptic horror series that later expanded into a multi-volume franchise with contributions from various legendary creators. The series earned its reputation as one of the most brutal properties in comic book history because its infected villains are not mindless, slow-moving corpses.
Instead, the infected retain their full human intelligence while losing every moral boundary, driving them to commit unspeakable acts of violence, torture, and chaos with sadistic delight. Furthermore, the narrative completely rejects typical heroic tropes and lighthearted moments, presenting an unrelenting, bleak world.
The original comic runs for 10 issues; however, its larger universe is massive. It spans more than 250 issues, including spin-offs, webcomics, and more.
High Expectations for Cinematic Horror
Because director Rob Jabbaz drew heavy inspiration from the original comic books for his bloody debut feature, this new project promises an exceptionally intense experience for horror audiences. The filmmakers intend to push boundaries while staying faithful to the graphic source material. Because the trailer is so brutal, you’ll need to head to YouTube to watch it.
