Scream Queen actress Brianne Howey has signed on for the television adaption of the horror classic The Exorcist according to Deadline. Howie will play Charlotte, a former ballerina who has not been the same since a terrible accident. She’s become depressed and anti-social. Her mother has come to believe that she is under the influence of a demonic entity. Charlotte appears to be the TV version of the film’s main character Regan.
The FOX television version of The Exorcist is described as “a serialized psychological thriller that follows two very different men both tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession”. Both men confronting the face of true evil. The pilot for the series, penned by Jeremy Slater (The Lazarus Effect), will be directed by Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes).
The Exorcist ( was inspired by the novel of the same name penned by William Blatty. The film both terrified and inspired several generations of horror fans and filmmakers and remains one of the most important horror films ever made. Honestly, I wasn’t pleased when I learned of the TV adaption and it still feels a little like blasphemy, but who knows, the show could turn out to be great.
