The Purge: Election Year, the third film of the franchise, is set to open in theaters on July 1st. A brand new trailer has just arrived and it’s awesome. Written and directed by James DeMonaco, Election Year picks up two years after the events of The Purge: Anarchy. Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo) is now serving as head of security or Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell) who is running for president. Her entire family was slaughtered on the night of the annual free-for-all 15 years ago and now she wants to end the Purge once and for all. Leo’s mission is to protect her during her campaign and to keep her safe on the night of the Purge. But a betrayal lands Leo and the Senator on the chaotic, blood-filled streets of D.C. on the one night of the year when there are no rules and there is no help . They must find a way to survive or be sacrificed for their sins against the state.
Mykelti Williamson, Ethan Phillips, Raymond J. Barry, Terry Serpico, Edwin Hodge, Joseph Julian Soria, and many others co-star in this intense film that carries a lot of social commentary.
You have to admit, with current political situation, the movie’s release and plot are perfectly timed. Not to mention, the slogan of both the film and of Trump are basically the same, “Keep America Great”. Could that be a coincidence? Let’s just hope that none of our presidential candidates get any ideas to instate a Purge of their own.
