According to DreadCentral the fifth installment in the classic Phantasm franchise, Phantasm: Ravager is hitting theaters and coming out on digital HD on October 7th.

Phantasm Ravager is set to follow the story of Reggie after his decades long pursuit of the malvovent Tall Man, to finally confront the heart of the Phantasm saga. Luckily the original (OG!) cast members have joined the cast for the franchise’s last hurrah. YEP you read right! This is the franchise’s last film. Thankfully because I would never want to see another actor portraying Angus Scrimm’s character,  especially after his death earlier this year. Returning back to my previous thought,  Michael Baldwin, Bill Thornbury, Kathy Lester and Angus Scrimm, along with some great new characters have all returned to star in the sequel.

But lets face it. The original is always better. So Well Go USA Entertainment announced their acquisition of North American rights for the iconic Phantasm franchise. The original film is getting a 4K all-new restoration and the third and fourth films are getting never-before-seen HD restorations! The remastered first film will hit theaters on September 24th and will screen across the country as part of the inaugural Art House Theater Day. About two weeks after that on October 7th, Phantasm: Ravager a.k.a Phantasm 5′ will premiere in select theaters and come out on digital HD.

From the press release “In addition, fans across the country will have the ability to bring both films to their hometowns using Tugg, an innovative platform that empowers individuals and groups to host screenings in their local theaters and community venues.”

The complete series of Phantasm will be released on Blu-Ray and DVD as a Collector’s Edition Set, packed with special bonus features and individual Blu-rays and DVDs of the original film remastered and the brand new film [Phantasm: Ravager]. The set is slated for a release later this year, but no solid day has been announced.

The remastering of Coscarelli’s film comes after J.J Abrams screening of the film for his team at Bad Robot Productions, only to find the available prints were in terrible shape. Abrams then called in Coscarelli to supervise as he gave the iconic film a 4K digital remaster which included a brand-new 5.1 audio mix, in turn bringing the film to its best quality EVER.

“The Phantasm films are iconic, and Well Go is ecstatic to have them. We get to bring a classic to a whole new audience with Phantasm: Remastered, and with Phantasm: Ravager we get to bring the die-hard fans – of which I am one – the closure they’ve been waiting for,” said Dylan Marchetti, SVP of Well Go USA Entertainment. “This is the kind of deal that every distributor dreams of doing, and when you get to do it with a true independent like Don, well, that’s just the extra cherry on the sundae.”

“I’m thrilled to be working with Well Go USA and their talented and dedicated team,” said Phantasm creator Don Coscarelli. “I am excited by their innovative new ideas and intense drive to bring the Phantasm franchise to a new generation of fans.”

Phantasm: Ravager is the fifth installment to cinema’s longest-running franchise (36 years!) without a reboot to a close, with Mike (A. Michael Baldwin) and Reggie (Reggie Banister) teaming up to confront the dimension-hopping Tall Man (Angus Scrimm, in his final role) once and for all.

Phantasm: Remastered, Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead, and Phantasm IV: Oblivion were written and directed by Don Coscarelli. Phantasm: Ravager was written by Coscarelli and David Hartman, executive produced by Brad Baruh, and directed by Hartman. All films star Angus Scrimm, Reggie Bannister, and A. Michael Baldwin.
