Neil Gaiman’s American Gods, based on his books by the same title, has only been on the air for two weeks and is already getting a lot of attention, so much that it has just been renewed for season 2, thank god(s).
I can only describe the series as brilliant, bold, beautiful, and nothing like we have ever seen before. The story lines keep you hanging on every line of the character’s dialogue. Even the violence, and there is a lot of it, is executed as if it were art. The cinematography, at the hands of Darren Tiernan, Jo Williams, and Aaron Morton, is simply elegant.  There is sex, brutality, war, love, passion and mystery. What more could you want?

In a world filled with gods, both old and new, we have been introduced to our central character, Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle), who is fresh out of prison and mourning the death of his wife Laura (Emily Browning). He is now working for Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane). Mr. Wednesday is out to recruit other established gods to battle the new gods in the war that is brewing.

The cast list for American Gods is mind blowing, so much talent. Gillian Anderson (Media), Yetide Badaki (Bilquis), Bruce Langley (Technical Boy), Cloris Leachman (Zorya Vechernyaya), Peter Stormare (Czernobog), Jonathan Tucker (Low Key Lyesmith), Crispin Glover (Mr. World), Mousa Kraish (The Jinn), Chris Obi (Anubis), Pablo Schreiber (Mad Sweeney), Corbin Bernsen (Vulcan), Kristen Chenworth (Easter) and Dane Cook co-star.
There is a leprechaun who is over 6ft tall, a god who likes to bash heads in with a sledge hammer, there is also a god who consumes her partners during sex, and I don’t mean with her mouth. And of course there is the mysterious Mr. Wednesday who has yet to reveal to Shadow, his secrets or who he truly is.

Executive producer and co-writer Brian Fuller penned the script for American Gods with Michael Green. The two are also working as co-showrunners. Gaiman will be serving as executive producer for the show. David Slade will be in the director’s chair for several episodes, including the pilot.
Do not miss American Gods Sundays on Starz.
