Mike Flanagan‘s adaptation of Stephen King‘s Doctor Sleep has announced its first cast member and its star, Ewan McGregor. What’s more, King himself has blessed the union.
The sequel to King’s classic The Shining will have McGregor, who has starred in films like Moulin Rouge!, Trainspotting and T2 Trainspotting, playing Danny Torrence who has grown up.

Flanagan, who was behind the King adaptation Gerald’s Game for Netflix, will also be producing along with his partner Trevor Macy and Vertigo Entertainment’s Jon Berg, Variety reports.
“Doctor Sleep takes place years after the events at the Overlook Hotel and focuses on the now middle-aged Danny who is still traumatized. He’s followed in his father’s footsteps and has problems with anger management and alcoholism. He soon gives up drinking and settles in a small town in New Hampshire. While there, his psychic abilities start to resurface and he develops a psychic link with a 12-year-old girl named Abra Stone who he must save after he discovers her life is being threatened by a tribe of paranormals led by a man named Rose the Hat.”
Doctor Sleep is set to open in theaters on January 24, 2020.
