Blu-ray Review: Ten Minutes to Midnight (2020)

Amy Marlowe (Caroline Williams, of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2) is getting the boot from her late-night heavy metal radio show, Ten Minutes to Midnight after 30 years on WLST radio… which will doubtless come as a huge surprise to her as the sleazy station manager, Bob (William Youmans), has decided to keep it all a secret until the night of.
You know what else probably surprised Amy? The fact that she was bitten on the neck by a rabid bat on the way to work. I know that would raise my fuckin’ eyebrows…
Causing our heroine even more static is the bright young recent graduate Sienna (Nicole Kang) whom Bob forces on her as a job shadow… but it’s obvious she is to be Amy’s replacement.
Speaking of Sienna, Amy straight-up bites her ass (well her hand to be precise, but you cats n’ creeps know what I mean… ) after a disastrous show, after which she eats a used tampon… because desert, amirite my fiends?
Trust me, after that things get increasingly insane for Amy as the night presses on and the blood begins to flow…
What seems like just another fang-bang flick turns into anything but as co-writer/director Erik Bloomquist (along with co-writer Carson Bloomquist) deliver nothing short of a psychotronic fever-dream of a film where absolutely anything can happen to our protagonist… as long as it’s surreal and nightmarish as all fuck that is… on her journey to become a vampire!
Speaking of ol’ Amy, genre vet Williams does a terrific job here playing a radio DJ that is older and more justifiably bitter, than her most famous role of Stretch from TCM2… and who else would you even consider for this role (Well, Barbara freakin’ Crampton apparently, as the audio commentary from Williams and Erik Bloomquist attest?!!
Regardless of that, Williams delivers a great sense of both outrage at what her male dominated career has done to her psyche… and turning into a complete, full-on maniac who feasts on feminine hygiene products and open arteries… while having downright hallucinogenic psychotic episodes (that deliver all manner of hyper-stylized eerie eye candy)!
While the main event is a one-of-a-kind vampire flick, there are plenty of  extras on this Blu-ray release from MVD Entertainment to further slake your unholy thirst (for bonus material)!
Anyway, here we get that aforementioned commentary track, along with a series of brief, behind-the-scenes featurettes, festival material, and the film’s trailer.
To sum this shit up, Ten Minutes to Midnight is an absolutely fang-tastic (yeah baby!) fright flick full to bursting with fever-dream imagery and one hell of a unique story to tell!
