The new Universal Monsters shared universe is filled with stars, and I’m not talking about the kind that twinkle. Stanley Tucci Joins The Cast Of The Creature Feature THE SILENCE

Stanley Tucci, who starred in The Hunger Games and Transformer: Age of Extinction, has joined the cast of John Leonetti’s creature feature The Silence. Tucci will star alongside the previously announced Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men). Set in a world where the human race is threatened by giant bats, the film is based on the novel by Tim Lebbon (30 Days of Night). The Silence centers on Ally, a deaf teenager, and her family, whose world is turned upside down by a deadly and primal force. In the fields near her New Jersey home, a colony of bats are attacked by a parasitic insect and soon morph into a new lethal species called Vesps. Eduardo Sánchez, who directed The Blair Witch Project, is headed to Cannes with his new psychological thriller Griffin’s Ghost. Written by Jamie Nash and Jack Zeman, the film centers on Griffin Kidder, a career New Yorker with a strong yearning to be a mother. Ready to start a new peaceful life outside the city, Griffin and her construction-savvy husband purchase a dilapidated house to renovate, only to discover that a scarred family of apparitions call it home. After relentless torment by the youngest of the spirits, Griffin finally confronts the ghosts. Soon, she realizes that the true threat isn’t inside the home. Brandon Cronenberg To Direct The Sc-fi Horror Film DRAGON

Brandon Cronenberg (David Cronenberg’s son), who made his great feature debut with Antiviral, is set direct and co-write Dragon, a sci-fi thriller that he describes as “like an adaption of an imagined Philip K. Dick novel.” Dragon, set in the near future, society has radically changed as a result of discovering ancient organic lifeforms drifting through the universe, whose alien biochemistry has been processed to create a hugely profitable drug that acts as an opiate to the masses. The film follows a captain and her crew as they hunt the “dragons” in space. He has stated that the film will explore “the pleasures of space horror in a satirical and at times psychotic universe.” Cronenberg is co-writing Dragon with Dan Abnett of Marvel Comics. Filming is set to begin in mid-2018 with Prospero Pictures and Independent producing, Variety reports.

Sony Conjures 10 Cloverfield Lane’s Daniel Casey To Rewrite The Craft

Nearly one year ago, we reported that after 20 years Leigh Janiak would be delivering a sequel to the cult favorite, The Craft. Now, we have learned, via Tracking Board, that Sony has brought in Daniel Casey (10 Cloverfield Lane) to re-write Janiak and Phil Graziadei’s script for the film which was going to follow a new group of young witches discovering magic. There is no word yet if the plot will be the same or if Casey’s version will be something all-together different. The 1996 film, directed by Andrew Fleming, follows Sarah (Robin Tunney), a teenage girl new in town. At her new school she finds a new group of friends, a trio of outcast girls, played by Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell and Rachel True, who practice witchcraft. With Sarah’s natural witchy talent, the girls are able to actually cast spells and curses against those who have wronged them.

George A. Romeo Headed To Cannes With His New Film ROAD OF THE DEAD

Genre Legend George A. Romero is seeking financing for a brand new zombie film which will be included in this summer’s Frontiers market, at the Fantasia Film Festival Running from July 20 -23 in Montreal. Unfortunately, the “Godfather of the Zombie Genre” won’t be in the director’s chair for the film, titled George A. Romero Presents: Road of the Dead, that honor is reserved for Matt Birman. Birman was the second unit director for Land of the Dead, Diary of the Dead, and Survival of the Dead, which makes him a great candidate. He clearly knows his way around the infected. He co-wrote the script with Romero and will produce alongside Justin Martell and Matt Manjourides.

Six Minute Clip Unleashed For Zombie Series WYRMWOOD: CHRONICLES OF THE DEAD

Australia’s 2014 indie zombie flick Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead was a hit with genre fans. Between it’s fast paced action and a unique story line (which is hard to do these days), the film left quite an impression on fans of the over saturated subgenre. Now, the TV series Wyrmwood: Chronicles of the Dead, directed by Kiah Roache-Turner, is approaching its premiere and has unleashed a six minute clip. In a recent interview with Bianca Bradey, star of both the film and the series, we learned that it will be a seven part supernatural series with a “Walking Dead meets True Detective” vibe. It’s a seven part series. It’s going to be very hard hitting. They are going for sort of The Walking Dead meet True detective style. It’s going to be gritty and edgy. It’s got a lot of supernatural twists to it. They are turning the zombie genre on its head again. The concept is completely original.

The first trailer for writer-director Peter Dukes’ supernatural thriller Escape Room has just arrived. Set in a real-life Escape Room where players have a time limit to follow clues to win their freedom, the film stars Scream actor Skeet Ulrich. Fede Alvarez Confirms DON’T BREATHE 2 Is Still In The Works

2016’s genre hit Don’t Breathe from Fede Alvarez made one hell of an impression with fans. It was revealed back in December that it would be getting a sequel. It was confirmed this week by Alvarez himself that the sequel is still on and he was kind enough to give a couple of details including that the film will center on Stephen Lang’s character (the blind man). While speaking to IGN Alvarez had this to say: The Challenge obviously is we just don’t want to do the same movie again and just have a 2 in it.” Producer Sam Raimi chimed in with what seems like a real vote of confidence in the story that Alvarez wants to tell next. It’s only the greatest idea for a sequel I’ve ever heard. Netflix Unveils Teaser For THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE

Netflix is running full steam ahead. For third time in two days we have news from the streaming giant. Word comes today that their prequel series to Henson and Frank Oz’s 1982 classic The Dark Crystal, has a an official title, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, Rolling Stone reports. Set to begin filming this fall, Age of Resistance will be set many years before The Dark Crystal takes place. In the series three Gelfling are tasked with preventing Skeksis from ruling the planet Thra.
