Lights Out And An Irresponsible Message About Depression.

What most people don’t know about clinical depression is quite a lot. I have personally been diagnosed with it, and yet I am in no way an expert about its biological intricacies. What I do know and what I can tell you is that clinical depression is not equivalent to simple sadness. So to tell a person who suffers from any clinical form of depression to “try and cheer up”, “do something fun to get your mind off things”, or any number of other suggestions that have nothing to do with fixing brain chemistry or psychological trauma, is frankly dismissive and unhelpful. What is helpful, is for those who do suffer from a form of clinical depression to seek treatment. If you have followed me this far, I sincerely thank you, my Little Monsters. I promise I will tie Lights Out to my spiel, but if you haven’t seen it…be warned, there are SPOILERS ahead. The basic premise of Lights

John and Sarah Makin – The Murderous Baby Farmers

The world has obviously changed drastically since the 1800s, but during that time in Australia there was what is called baby farming. It was for poor parents or single parents who were unable to raise their children. They would pay another couple to take the child so that there would be the possibility of a prosperous and happy life…John and Sarah Makin robbed the babies they farmed of both a prosperous life and life in general. These two monsters were a match made in Hell. John Makin was born on February 14, 1845 and Sarah was born August 15 of the same year. The couple were wed on August 27, 1871. Sarah had been married before and brought one child into the marriage and then had another daughter with John. John worked as a drayman (a driver of a low, flatbed wagon that transported various kinds of goods) and was injured which forced him to quit and the couple was

Throwback Thursday Movie Review: THE THING is a Perfect Blend of Sci-Fi, Horror and Paranoia

“Paranoia is just another mask for ignorance. The truth, when you finally chase it down is almost always far worse than your darkest visions and fears” – Hunter S. Thompson It’s business as usual in the Antarctic, at The National Science Institute research station, U.S. Outpost 31, that is until a sled dog arrives in the camp being frantically pursued by two Norwegians in a helicopter. The chopper lands and the Norwegian pilot haphazardly tries to throw an explosive charge into the camp to destroy the dog, but drops it in the snow blowing up himself and the chopper. The other Norwegian starts trying to shoot the dog, injuring one of the members of the outpost’s crew. The outpost chief shoots and kills him, thus eliminating any further threat. Such an odd occurrence begs an explanation, but the only one left alive that has a clue is the dog…and he’s not talking. The only available answers can now be found

Woman (In Horror) Crush Wednesday – Dee Wallace

Hello my Little Monsters, and thank you for joining me once again. As you may well know, it’s Women in Horror Month. And while it’s great that women heave a month during which we celebrate their substantial contribution to the horror genre, I truly believe that they should always be celebrated. So going forward on Wednesdays I will throw a spotlight on one of our wonderful women of horror. Today I’m going to start with my first ever TRUE crush – Dee Wallace (swoons). For me the spring of 1982 was when I first became aware of Ms. Wallace. Granted the summer of this year would also be when she unknowingly harbored a alien being in her home in a little movie called E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. And even though this is when I first started crushing on her, it wasn’t the movie I first had seen her in. Actually, I was in second grade, and during spring break while watching

The Boogieman Lived – The Story of Albert Fish

There are creatures who are born on this earth who are comparable to those created by the best mind in horror for literature, movies and campfire stories. However, every once in a while, a demon is born who trumps even the sickest and wildest imaginations. Albert Fish is one of those…maybe THE one of those. This creature is known as The Grey Man, The Werewolf of Wysteria, The Brooklyn Vampire, and The Boogieman. He is known for extreme sexual perversions, pedophilia, coprophilia, urophilia, and masochism. Albert Hamilton Fish was born in Washington DC on May 19, 1870. His life had a difficult and tragic beginning. Many members of his family suffered from various mental illnesses and were unfit to raise Fish. He was placed in hyper-religious orphanage and routinely beaten and whipped. He was ridiculed by the other children and the leaders of the orphanage because he would become physically aroused at during the whippings. His life in the orphanage

Sarah Paulson Joins Cast of Amazon’s Craigslist Murder Movie, LOST GIRLS

She has dealt with witchy girls, slept cheek by jowl with “freaks”, inhabited a haunted hotel, and even prosecuted a double murderer. But now Sarah Paulson will step into the skin of Mari, the mother of a young woman named Shannan, who is one of many escorts and prostitutes to fall victim to a serial killer. Paulson has been cast to star in the Amazon Studios’ serial killer thriller, Lost Girls. The movie tells the story of a real life serial killer on Long Island, who was often referred to by the media as the “Gilgo Beach Killer”. But due to the fact that many of the killer’s victims were sex workers, who were found on Craigslist, the killer was dubbed with the more familiar moniker of the “Craigslist Ripper” . Documentary filmmaker Liz Garbus will direct the film based on Michael Werwie’s screen adaptation of Robert Kolker’s book Lost Girls: An Unsolved American Mystery (2013). This will be Garbus’

The four day festival will be held in Tasmania’s capital city of Hobart, and will include screenings, conferences, workshops, exhibitions and a number of year round “satellite events”. The festival specifically showcases the work of women directors, as well as exploring female perspectives within the realm of genre film. Massacre at Burger Chef

I have always found that unsolved murders and crimes are absolutely terrifying. The thought that people can commit heinous acts and then go about the rest of their lives without punishment, consequence or atonement is not only terrifying, but astounding with resources at our disposal for crime solving. I understand that the real world is not CSI…and it is definitely not CSI:Miami, but it still boggles me how people can walk away from their real life horror. On November 17, 1978 four staff members were closing up at the Burger Chef franchise in Indiana. Suspicions were aroused when none of them returned home after their shift. Police assumed that they had all gone off partying with $500 that had also gone missing, but the truth was much grislier. Two days after their disappearance, all four bodies were found less than 20 miles from the burger joint. Two had been shot (Daniel Davis – 16 years old, Ruth Shelton – 17
