Alien: Covenant Sequel? Ridley Scott Is Ready If And When Fox Is.

So here we are, my Little Monsters, just a little over two not short enough months away from Ridley Scott’s newest Alien franchise installment, Alien: Covenant. This film furthers the story-line that began with Scott’s 2012 film Prometheus. It was originally intended that Prometheus would in effect act as a prequel to Scott’s 1979 film, Alien. but as most fans will attest, while the film answered many questions it asked a hell of a lot more that now need to be answered – enter Alien: Covenant. Now Scott gets the chance to begin tying up loose ends left to unravel by the previous screenwriters on Prometheus. From the trailers that have been released thus far it looks like Scott is bringing back the essence of his 1979 classic. In an interview with the Sidney Morning Herald, Michael Fassbender stated, “They’ve gone back to the Alien mood in terms of the thriller-horror aspect of it but we have the scale of

Vincent Price – The Voice, Face, and Icon of Horror

Years and years ago during one Halloween, my dad put on Michaels Jackson’s Thriller album. The end of the title track features a devilish laugh. I didn’t know who the laugh was performed by and I was too young to realize what the song was about, but I remember my older brother bursting into tears at the demonic cackle and run out of living room to find comfort in the safety of his bedroom. It is one of my favorite memories…especially because it didn’t only happen once (mom and dad thought it was hilarious). For those of you who haven’t heard the laugh, stop reading, go to this link and check it out. That voice belongs to the icon, the legend, Vincent Price. Price has been the face and voice of horror for decades and continues that legacy long after his death. Obviously this talented actor’s career spanned other genres, but he is the indisputable king of horror. Vincent Leonard

American Horror Story will Focus on Recent Election

Big news from the world of American Horror Story! Regardless of your thoughts about the recent USA election, you are about to see it turned into horror! For many people, this may not seem too far of a reach, but American Horror Story creator, Ryan Murphy, will bring his own twisted outlook on terror to the election in the upcoming season. He promises that both Hillary Clinton and President Trump will be part of the show. Murphy does promise, however, that the two foes will not be the focus of the show. In an interview with E! News, Murphy talks about the highly anticipated season. “Horror Story is always about allegory, so the election is allegory. It’s our jumping off point. It is about the election we just went through and what happened on that night and the fallout of that night, which to many people, from all sides of the camps is a horror story. And you know, that

The Plague Doctor – Emanuele Mengotti Seeks To Realize His Haunting Vision

Poveglia is the name of a small island located in the Venetian Lagoon, located off the northeastern coast of Italy. It’s a place that director Emanuele Mengotti knows well. As a boy he could literally see the island from his bedroom window in his family’s home, which was located in the Venetian city of Lido. This particular locale is a haunted place. fraught with a tragic history stemming from disease and insanity, and serves as the intended setting for Mengotti’s upcoming film The Plague Doctor. The filmmaker’s synopsis of The Plague Doctor describes the film as, “The story of Mattia, a talented young doctor, takes place in Venice. He is summoned to care for an old writer, Riccardo, by his niece, Valentina. Before reaching Riccardo’s dwelling, Mattia passes by Poveglia, an ancient island in the Venetian Lagoon where several events related to the history and culture of the “Serenissima” took place. Once a quarantine site and then a mental hospital,

Woman (In Horror) Crush Wednesday: Jen and Sylvia, The Soska Sisters

As we all know, my Little Monsters, February only has 28 days or 29 when we happen to be in a leap year. And while Women in Horror Month officially ended yesterday, I’m going to buck the trend and add one more day…Just because I feel like it. Frankly I believe that the talented women in horror, or women in general for that matter, should be recognized and celebrated EVERY day of every month. So without further ado, lets get this show on the road. The horror genre got it’s hooks into Jen and Sylvia at a very young age, and the movie responsible – Poltergeist. The precocious pair would also tear through Stephen King novels as quickly as they could get their eager little hands on them. And much like the rest of us genre fans, in the heyday of VHS and video stores, the impressionable pair would take pleasure in perusing the horror section of their local video

Alice Cooper – The Icon of Music and Horror

I just want to take a moment and talk about a concert I went to. No, this is not a concert review, nor will I spend any time talking about the songs played or putting in a plug for you all to go see this show (although you should). What does this have to do with horror? Trust me, my friends. Trust me. I went and saw the unmistakeable Alice Cooper. Yes the show was amazing. Yes, he somehow still sound amazing at 69 years old. Yes, he is heavy and energetic enough to match up to any current rock show. However, none of that is what I want to talk about. The dude lives and breathes horror! His whole show is built around him being in an asylum and within those rubber walls he dances like a ghoul, and screams like a banshee while nurses inject him with goliathian needles, attack him with whips, and restrain him in strait

John Borowski’s Serial Killer Culture

Well…here we are my Little Monsters, we’re in a brand new month. To start off this new month I would like to make a suggestion about something that you really ought to check out. Staring today, March 1st, there is a new six part series from documentary filmmaker John Borowski, entitled Serial Killer Culture TV, available for viewing or purchase at Amazon. What exactly is serial killer culture? One could posit that it is a form subculture that focuses not just on the killers themselves, but also their crimes, their motivation and the historical context. With this series, Borowski picks up where he left off with his documentary film on the subject, by further shedding light on all manner of endeavors that have arisen from people’s fascination with these real life monsters. To understand why Borowski created this series, we must go back to when he began this particular journey in 2014 with the release of his documentary Serial Killer

Allerleiruh…A Fairy Tale to Make You Uncomfortable

I have done a few articles on Fairy Tales and still profess that they are the precursors of horror. These stories, though fanciful, are dark, brooding, didactic, and often gory or disturbing. The real tragedy is that so many of the greatest fairy tales are unknown because Disney hasn’t watered them down yet; however, I feel that those ones are the best ones because there really isn’t a natural way to water them down. All-Kinds-of-Fur (Allerleiruh) is one of those fairy tales that isn’t gory or anything, but it is a great story that leaves a very uncomfortable feeling I the pit of the reader’s stomach…and isn’t that what we all crave? The tale starts off with the death of a queen who was the most beautiful woman in all the land. On her death bed, she told her husband that he could marry again, but “if thou wishest to marry again after my death, take no one who is

Jesse Tafero and the Botched Execution

I have focused a lot on women in horror and murder this month and will do a few more articles about those terrifying women before the month is out, but I wanted to focus today a man executed in Florida in 1990. Why Florida? Because the story of his execution is horrific and unbelievable. Jesse Joseph Tafero (October 12, 1946), his wife Sonia, their two children, and friend Walter Rhodes were asleep in a parked car. This seemingly abandoned car was noticed by police officers Phillip Black and Donald Irwin. Black knocked on the car window and saw the gun on the floor of the car too late. Tafero fired the weapon killing Black at point blank range and then opened fire on Irwin. After the double murder, the murderous crew and their children stole the police car, sped away and were finally captured at a road block. Tafero had a long criminal record consisting of mostly armed robberies. He
