The World of Art Has Lost A Legend In Bernie Wrightson

Hello my Little Monsters. Today I greet you with a heavy heart, since the art world has lost a legendary member of its ranks, Bernie Wrightson. Bernie had retired in January of this year, citing health issues he had experienced following brain surgery. Sadly, earlier today he lost his battle with brain cancer. Bernie got his start as an illustrator for The Baltimore Sun, but it was a chance meeting with his one of his major artistic influences (and one of my personal favorites), Frank Frizetta, that inspired him to delve into comic book art. Bernie’s first endeavor for DC Comics was creating the art for a story in the March/April 1968 issue of House of Mystery (No. 179), entitled “The Man Who Murdered Himself”. Three years later Bernie would team with writer Len Wein to create arguably hist most famous creation Swamp Thing for the July 1971 issue of DC’s House of Secrets (No. 92). Bernie had done the

Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant Follow Up Now Has A Title

Yes my Little Monsters, as I have previously reported, Ridley Scott is planning ahead and already has a follow up to Alien: Covenant on deck and ready to begin shooting next year. Scott’s Alien franchise prequel trilogy would be rounded out with the inclusion of Alien: Awakening. But it appears that the order of the film trilogy’s chronology is different than fans would have anticipated. Scott spoke with Fandango recently and stated, “It will go Prometheus, Awakening, Covenant“, thus making this next possible film in the series both a prequel AND a sequel. Scott’s motivation for this next film likely mirrored the feelings of Prometheus fans when he expressed, “I’d love to explore where the hell [Dr. Shaw] goes next and what does she do when she gets there, because if it is paradise, paradise can not be what you think it is. Paradise has a connotation of being extremely sinister and ominous … I know where it’s going. I

Sadistic Soccer Sociopath Signs Contract

I am a huge sports fan. Obviously (adhering to the overwhelming Canadian stereotype) I love to watch and play hockey. Football, softball, basketball, MMA, and various other sports are always on my radar. One sport I just can’t get into is soccer (or futball for all you purists out there). But something has happened in the wide world of sports that has made it impossible to ignore this boring spectacle. If you like soccer more power to you, I wish I did, and I wish you all the best…unless you are cheering for the Boa Esporte Clube in Brazil. This team just signed a new goalie named Bruno Fernandes das Dores de Souza. I don’t know if that name is familiar to anyone, but he was in the news back in 2010 for murdering and torturing his girlfriend to keep her pregnancy from his wife. Oh, he also fed her body to his dogs. So here’s the story, His mistress,

Woman (In Horror) Crush Wednesday: Linnea Quigley

It’s often said that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. But there just happens to be one woman who is trash and treasure all in one, and her name is Linnea Quigley. Now when I speak of her as “Trash“, my Little Monsters, I am obviously speaking of her iconic character from the 1985 classic, Return of the Living Dead. In the late 70’s, after graduating from high school in Davenport, IA, Linea and her family relocated to Los Angeles. She began working at a health spa owned by Jack Lalane...yes, the Jack Lalane from the juicer infomercials who swam while handcuffed and shackled and also towing 70 rowboats behind him at the age of 70. But this is about Linea, so let’s not get side tracked… like I just did. Anyways, while working at this spa, Linnea met models who were employed as extras on films. Friends began suggesting to Linnea that she should try acting, and luckily

Darkness Visible is Keeping Horror in Metal!

Horrorfuel.com got contacted earlier today by the band Darkness Visible. This Australian-based theater rock band are part of a segment of the horror world that I feel is far too underestimated and far too rarely recognized. I wrote an article a little bit ago about an Alice Cooper concert and how he was the godfather of horror-music: well, if Mr. Cooper is the godfather, he can certainly be proud of his Darkness Visible children. Bassist David Black wants the world to know that his band is releasing their ninth music video and that this one is “a bit over the top.” The song is called Breaking Point. Tragically, I had not heard of this band yet so I did some research. I watched the other eight videos and they are truly mini horror movies with accompanying music to tell a tale of darkness. I loved them. What I did wonder about is what “a bit over the top” meant. Well,

Review: John Borowski’s Serial Killer Culture TV Is A Great Time Killer

“Serial killers are everywhere! Well, perhaps not in our neighborhood, but on our television screens, at the movie theatres, and in rows and rows of books at our local Borders or Barnes and Noble Booksellers.” – Pat Brown Serial killers have held a place in popular culture for some time. They and their fictional counterparts can be found in mainstream movies, books, television shows, and music. And by way of sensationalism, these real life monsters reached a somewhat mythical status, that makes them not unlike the boogeyman. In John Borowski’s documentary film, Serial Killer Culture, the viewer is provided a glimpse of a subculture that also focuses on these same true life killers from a more real and visceral artistic, historic, and cultural perspective. While I enjoyed John’s documentary, I could see he had only scratched the surface and I hoped at least a second installment was in the works. On March 1st, John continued forth on the journey he

The Predator Continues to Add Cast Members After Filming has Started

I am so excited to keep announcing cast updates for the new Predators film. Director Shane Black has just announced that Jack Busey (son of Gary Busey who was in Predator 2) has just been added. Filming for this movie (which Black promises will be gory) has already started and there are no details about Busey’s character, but he is joining the ever-growing group of actors that will be hunted by a genetically modified predator in an urban setting. The ever- growing cast includes Boyd Holbrook, Jacob Tremblay, Sterling K. Brown, Keegan-Michael Key, Trevante Rhodes and Olivia Munn. Kyle Strauts will play the Predator. We reported back January that Thomas Jane has joined the cast and if things continue the way they are, Black will continue to announce more people and they will all be reported here on HorrorFuel.com.

Movie Review GHOSTS OF DARKNESS Should Remain In The Shadows

Richwood Manor is a house with a history that spans well over two centuries. And if said history were committed to the pages of a book, it would tell the numerous brief but horrific tales of its former residents. Two paranormal investigators have been tasked with establishing the root cause of the unfortunate events that have long plagued the house and its residents. One investigator, Jack Donavan, is a skeptic whose method of investigation leans more towards disproving the veracity of a haunting through the use of scientific means and equipment. The other investigator, Jonathan Blazer, is a psychic whose “gift” provides him with a glimpse into the spirit realm which aids him in his endeavors. Neither man places much stock in the other’s investigative technique. What’s more, is that they would both prefer to work alone. However, if they wish to earn the rather generous fee of $50,000 to undertake the investigation, while also being locked up inside the

Sandy Chukhadarian’s Film “Psychos” is Not One to Miss

When three young women receive shocking videos anonymously, a nightmare is reawakened that ignites a thirst for bloody vengeance. They embark on a journey to locate the house, their sadistic captor and to discover the truth behind those locked doors. But, the most shocking revelation of this chilling tale is the identities of the victims. If anyone has read my movie reviews before, you know that if the movie is lacking, I am not afraid to tell you so. I still feel a bit bad about my last scathing review, but it was honest. Luckily, today is not a day for scathe. I watched Psychos last night. This film written and directed by Sandy Chukhadarian and it was fantastic! It stars Angelica Chitwood, Deniele Cloutier and Melissa Elena Jones and is released through Leomark Studios. I wasn’t sure what to expect going in. I watched the trailer about 30 seconds before watching the film and, to be honest, wasn’t gripped.

Woman (In Horror) Crush Wednesday – International Women’s Day

Here we are again, my Little Monsters, on another Woman Crush Wednesday. However, I have not chosen any specific woman of the horror genre to celebrate today. Why haven’t I made a selection for today? I promise you all, it’s not because I have been remiss in my duties as a writer. It’s because I wanted to give you, the readers, a chance to let your voices be heard…so to speak. What could I possibly mean by that? It means that since it’s International Women’s Day, I want to celebrate by finding out who your favorite woman or women in our beloved horror genre happen to be. Who’s you favorite final girl, your favorite scream queen, or you favorite female filmmaker? Elsa Lanchester? Simone Simon? Barbara Steele? Adrienne Barbeau? Marilyn Burns? Katharine Isabelle? Jessica Cameron? Amanda Wyss? I know there are so many to choose from besides the ones I have just mentioned, but I sincerely want to know. Women
