Several shark projects are swimming your way, including Amazon’s upcoming series The Deep, which is based on the 2015 novel by Nick Cutter. The novel garnered high praises from the likes of Stephen King, who said it “scared the hell out of me…. it’s old school horror at its best.” and Clive Barker who called it “utterly terrifying.” “Set in the near future, The Deep centers on a research station at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, where a miraculous discovery signals a new hope for humanity – but secrets unearthed on the ocean floor may hold devastating consequences for the world above.” Deadline reports that C. Henry Chaisson (Antlers, “Servant”) is writing the series for Amazon Studios with Carlton Cuse executive producing alongside Henrik Bastin and Melissa Aouate (“Bosch”). The new year is set to bring us all kinds of terrifying delights including another Stephen King adaptation. This time it’s a film based on his short story The Boogeyman. Host and “Bite Size Horror” director Rob Savage is at the helm of the film that began filming this past spring and will expand on the original tale. The film’s cast has already been announced and includes David Dastmalchian (pictured), Chris Messian, Sophie Thatcher, Marin Ireland, and Vivian Lyre Blair. In the film, a man named Lester Billings talks to his psychiatrist about the “murders” of his three young children, describing the events of the past several years. His first two children died mysteriously of apparently unrelated causes (diagnosed as crib death and convulsions, respectively) when left alone in their bedrooms. The only commonalities were that the children cried “Boogeyman!” and the closet door was found ajar after discovering their corpses, even though Billings is certain the door was shut.

The Japanese director is now making his move to TV with the series “Connect“, now streaming on Hulu. The series, which features English subtitles, is based on the webtoon of the same name from Shin Dae Sung. And centers on a man, Ha Dong-soo, who is kidnapped, and one of his eyes is removed by a gang of organ hunters. His eye was transplanted into the body of a serial killer. Now the unwilling donor has terrible visions as he witnesses terrifying attacks on the residents of Seoul. This February, Blumhouse’s Five Nights At Freddy’s is set to come to life. Casting announcements have finally begun to roll in, with Matthew Lillard (Thir13en Ghosts, Scream, Scooby-Doo) and Josh Hutcherson (Tragedy Girls) set to star, Deadline reports. The long-awaited video game adaptation is finally coming, with the mascots of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza Joint springing to life with a taste for blood. Production is set to begin this February in New Orleans with Emma Tammi (The Wind) in the director’s chair. Jim Henson’s Creature Shop will bring the iconic animatronics to life. Tammi, Scott Cawthon, and Seth Cuddeback penned the screenplay for Five Nights at Freddy’s, which Blumhouse is producing in association with Striker Entertainment. Scott Cawthon and Jason Blum will produce, with Russell Binderserving as executive producer. We’ll keep you posted.

Video game adaptations are a gamble, but it seems Netflix is rolling the dice. The announcement has now been made on Twitter that a live-action feature adaptation of the popular game “BioShock” is heading your way. Netflix will partner with 2K and Take-Two Interactive, the studio that created the game, and its parent company which will be producing the movie, whose details are still being kept quiet. “BioShock” was first released back in 2007. It follows Jack, a passenger on an airplane that crashes into the ocean near the underwater city of Rapture, a haven where the rich and powerful can live out their lives free from the restrictions of land-based governments. But as Jack quickly learns, the city has turned into a horrific den of monsters. The game was a hit and went on to spawn two sequels. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
