Short Film Review: Guest (2020)

The long and the short of the new bite-sized fright flick from writer/director Finn Callan goes as follows: Mary (Melania Crisan), who just shows up at the home of a woman (Jessica Munna) suffering from self inflicted injuries, is balls deep in trouble town when she tries to kick a real pain in the arcane ass out of her life; namely a disturbing creature (Anna Fraser) that plagues her on the regular. Seems like a simple enough conceit, eh boils n’ ghouls? Well it is, and the way Callan (and his crew including cinematographer Fyodor Houtheusen, and editor Trifa Keedo) tell it is masterful indeed. The visuals are presented in a near monotone palette of cool blues that offers a cold tone that matches the relationship between our heroine and her guest… well at first anyway. Things get a bit more heated… and terrifying, once we see the guest for who she really is, and let me tell ya cats

The Weird World of Wild Eye Releasing: Part 4

As you have seen in the first three parts of this series (located here, here, and here) Wild Eye Releasing are filled to the beastly brim with all manner of horror biz available to satisfy you cats n’ creeps… and here come a few more to put on your revoltin’ radar! Blu-ray Review: Cecilia (1983)

After some establishing shots featuring zooms on statue penis (as one would naturally expect), we get down to brass tacks; namely the arrival of brat-ass Cecilia (Muriel Montossé) to her home… well almost; before she gets there she teases her driver by getting naked, a game she often plays with the help, who understandably hate it. To that end they’ve orchestrated a revenge; namely raping the woman of the house (all set to bouncy electric organ music that makes things a whole hell of a lot more peppy than you’d anticipate), but their plan backfires like a mother fucker, because she is in to such things, and if anything it gets her horny level over 9,000. Blu-ray Review: Black Test Car (1962)/The Black Report (1963)

Our putrid pals over at Arrow Video and MVD Entertainment have got a couple of flicks from Japanese maverick director Yasuzo Masumura that they are set to release on one lil’ ol’ Blu-ray; 1962’s Black Test Car, which deals with corporate espionage in the auto industry, and 1963’s The Black Report, which is a murder mystery affair. In Black Test Car we meet Asahina (Jiro Tamiya), who works at Tiger Motors, a company which is tryin’ like unholy hell to get a new car constructed and on the road before those sons of bitches at rival company Yamamoto Motors are any the wiser. Of course that’s going to be near impossible as their is a spy in Tiger’s outfit, and the company will go to great lengths to sniff ’em out! Here comes ol’ Mikey (Brian Bonsall); a terror tyke that will surely be a royal ass pain to everyone he (dis)graces with his presence. So yeah, Mikey… this mother fucker tries to set his house on fire, watches his sister drown, and electrocutes his adoptive mother… all in the first five minutes of the goddamned film; fuckin’ beast mode activated amirite? Movie Review: SLAXX (2020)

Ol’ Libby (Romane Denis) is happier than a clam in pigshit (of course as everyone knows, that is pretty damn happy) to be a new employee of an ultra-swank clothing store that is filled with plenty of those pretentious-ass types we all know and loathe. Anyway, one of those aforementioned asses steals a pair of jeans, puts them on, and before you can say “Ooh la la Sasson” she’s pinched in two by that ghoulish garment… and those putrid pants Hoover-up the red sauce left behind with the quickness! Picture it; Sicily 1486… a group of monks, doubtless filled with the friskiness of youth, crucify five nuns they believe are witches… Fast forward to the amazing future year 1990 A.D., and Liza (Meg Register) and Professor Evans (Brett Halsey), head to Sicily to investigate a series of ruins on the island even though every mother fucker on there tells them that it’s a rather shit idea… hell even Liza had a terrifying psychic visions of the damned place at a seance held months earlier. Well, Liza finds the bodies of those nuns, and guess what? Movie Review: The Pale Door

The Pale Door is an independent, low-budget effort that strives to pull off a western/horror movie mashup successfully. Although its budgetary limitations often show seams and its western film tropes are plentiful, the film from director Aaron B. Koontz (Camera Obscura and a segment in Scare Package) is an ultimately fun effort boasting impressive practical makeup effects and an intriguing cast. In the old west, Duncan and his younger brother Jake witness their parents murdered during a raid on their ranch. Duncan (Zachary Knighton) grows up to be a member of the Dalton Gang, and Jake (Devin Druid) leads an honest life sweeping saloon floors in an attempt to save up enough money to buy back the land on which they lived as children. When the two brothers meet up as the gang members travel through town on their way to a train robbery, Jake, against Duncan’s initial wishes, asks to help out after one of the outlaws is shot

Blu-ray Review: Aenigma (1987)

As with most films, Lucio Fulci’s Aenigma begins with two friends helping their pal, Kathy (Milijana Zirojevic), get gussied up for a date as a theme song featuring the “not quite Air Supply” stylings of Douglas Meakin (Head Over Heels by name, though the credits are sure it’s Head Over Meels… missed it by that much) gives us a yacht rock punch right to the ol’ hairy beanbag. Well, the joke’s on her as seemingly the entire student body of St. Mary’s College (her “friends” included) laugh their asses off as the sounds of her getting hot n’ heavy with her date are broadcast for all to hear. Blu-ray Review: Fulci For Fake (2019)

Lucio Fulci is horror biz royalty ’round these parts. City of the Living Dead (1980), The Beyond (1981), The House by the Cemetery (1981), A Lizard in a Woman’s Skin (1971), Don’t Torture a Duckling (1972), fuckin’ Zombi (2) (1979)… these are Grade-A fright flick classics right there let me tell ya cats n’ creeps! Now along comes writer/director Simone Scafidi’s with his docu-drama Fulci For Fake, a film which explores Fulci’s life and the impact he had on those that knew him best; his family and the people he created his unforgettable masterpieces alongside. Now, ol’ triple “F” begins with an off-beat conceit; actor Nicola Nocella has been cast as Frenzied Fulci in a fictitious movie about the maestro’s life (and he ends up playing him in this film as well as the meta snake eats it’s tail).
