Olive (Amanda Crew) has had a rough week, she’s been fired and she’s gone through a breakup. When her friends urge her to get out of the city she books a beautiful old house for the weekend not knowing that the home’s owner (Robert Patrick) is a killer and he’s just added her to his bucket list. Robert Patrick stars as Harvey, a regular joe, who has gotten to a point in his life where he’s checking off his bucket list. He’s traveled the world, he’s had a great love, raised a family, and now there’s just one thing left to do that he has never done, kill someone. Writer-director Richard Bates Jr. takes us on a strange trip in Tone-Deaf. Crew’s Olive is the embodiment of all things Millenial, which happens to be the one thing Harvey hates more than anything. In fact, in my opinion, the whole film is about the tension felt between Millenials and Baby Boomers.

From the dawn of time, a cadre of Nekromancers has battled legions of demons for the fate of the world. As it is the age of smart phones being perma-glued to people’s hands (though as you will see, this film gives zero-fucks about presenting anything as lofty as social commentary); the Queen of the Underworld (the always jaw-dropping Monica Bellucci) is developing an app that will allow those dastardly demons to wage cyber warfare on an unsuspecting mankind who think the app is a simple ghost finding program, rather than a means of swipin’ their very souls. This brings us to dopey sanitation worker named Howard (Ben O’Toole) and his equally clueless best friend (Epine Bob Savea). You see Howard’s legacy is to become the ultimate Nekromancer and he is tasked with ending that arcane app and the Queens machinations for good. Our world is pretty much fucked. Fellow Traveler and Paranoid Productions indoctrinated me into the Collective Justice Mission and have sent me down to South America to join my fellow members of the congregation in Freedom Town… Well, they were just cool enough to let me try out their game The Church in the Darkness. The game takes place in the 1970s where you take on the role of an ex-cop named Vic who infiltrates the Collective Justice Mission cult’s paradise Freedom Town in what seems to be an eerie parody of Jonestown. Vic’s mission is to find his nephew Alex to see if he’s alright but soon after you arrive, you realize not everything is well. The game is a top view game where you can zoom in a little bit to see more details but other than that, this is the only angle you will see. Goody-two-shoes Erica (Annie Q) unbelievably finds herself slammed into weekend detention, and before you can say “This shit seems like The Breakfast Club” she suffers the barbs of the various reprobates stuck in there with her as well as the ‘tude of the gruff-as-all-shit Vice Principal runnin’ the show. Said hard ass makes our “heroes” clean up the school as punishment, before retiring to his office to appease that ol’ demon in a bottle. Talk among that gang of goofs soon turns to the urban legend of a g-g-ghost dressed as an admiral that haunts those hallowed halls…and the fact some of them believe said specter is behind students that have recently gone missing. Soon the kids end up being locked in the school, and of course what was thought to be mere legend is in fact a murderous reality! Gearbox Software and Compulsion Games in recent months released a Season Pass for their dystopian psychedelic mod game, We Happy Few. Gearbox was kind enough to share with me the season pass so I can experience one of three DLCs, this one in particular titled Lightbearer that follows a rock icon of the fictional English Island-state of Wellington, Nick Lightbearer. Lightbearer appears in the main game for a short time but images of him are everywhere. In the Lightbearer DLC, it becomes obvious that there are two kinds of people in Wellington, those who still like Nick Lightbearer, and those who despise him. Nick’s star is quickly fading as all the sex, and drugs are killing his rock and roll life. Nick is troubled not only by the fact that he’s burning out but that there’s a series of murders taking place around the hotel he’s staying at, and he’s linked to them! Not onto the game. After his most recent night of drugs and infidelity, his wife has kicked his ass out. You’d think that would definitely fill his dance card of stupidity, but you’d be wrong as he heads to his friend Ian’s (Justin Marosa) farm where he used to get his party on in days past. Wait, that doesn’t sound like too bad of a decision…and on the surface it isn’t…but just you wait… You see, ol’ Ian is acting like he has murder biz on his mind, and it seems Anton LaVey is his interior decorator, and a whole slew of dudes have gone missing in the surrounding area. A dude named Jeb just so happens to be a director for a children’s television program…and that program just so happens to be tanking faster than Andrew Dice Clay at a feminist rally (I’ve been saving that one since 1988…I think you’ll agree it’s aged like a fine wine whose grapes were fermented in pure mirth). Anyway, ol’ Jeb has the 1000Watt idea to take a bunch of writers to a secluded lodge (the journey to which will bring to mind a certain Kubrick lensed fright flick…or the ending of the theatrical cut of Blade Runner…but what’s the difference really) to try and create some creative zeitgeist. Seems reasonable…oh, and Jeb decides to film everything with hidden cameras because he is coming unglued and is preparing a major case of the “goin’ ape-shits” that will leave the group all murdered like (but not before he uses their deepest secrets against them). Ol’ Emma (Mhairi Calvey) is well and truly in the sinister soup! She’s been kidnapped and chucked into an abandoned bunker with a dude named Ben (Tyron Ricketts), a real shit-heel who sexually assaulted our heroine 15 years prior… along with her old school chum Jamie (Martin Kaps). Soon this gaggle finds themselves b.d. in the stalk n’ slay bag as they strive to keep alive when the psychos that abducted them begin chasing them through the wicked woods. 3 Lives has it’s ups and downs. Co-Writer (along with Wolf-Peter Arand)/Director Juliane Block presents Emma as a character shattered by the damage Ben inflicted on her, and Calvey certainly has the acting chops to make that believable…but unfortunately the situation she finds herself in is cliche and predictable for anyone that is a fan of the slasher genre. Fortunately the tension is kept relatively high and effective so the goings-on remain mostly watchable throughout. See how I said “mostly” up

Colette (Becca Buckalew) is a woman home alone doin’ a lil’ housework when she sees a news report detailing yet another missing woman in the area. Fortunately for her, the love of her life Cole (Matt McAbee) is heading home post-haste. Of course she doesn’t remain alone for long, but just who is in her house, and what do they truly want… Running just under six minutes, Cole & Colette packs a lot of suspense in it’s brief runtime…not to mention some great twists and turns. Writer Harker Jones along with Director Matt Boda actually manage to bring something new to that beloved horror biz trope; the stranger in the house…accompanied by news bulletins detailing a menace on the loose…seriously this shit was a “thing” all the way back in ’50’s era Tom and Jerry cartoons (Down Beat Bear for those of you keeping track at home)…probably even before, I’m not doing anymore research, my fingers are exhausted), yet it

Monster Couch was kind enough to give me a chance to try out their party game based on a Japanese game show, Tetsumo Party, which is coming out on July the 26th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and Woovit. The main premise of the game is that players take on the role of a sumo wrestler and control his limbs so he’s able to fit through a human-shaped hole in a bamboo wall. This idea is also the basis for a real-life Japanese game show that was adapted a few years ago for American television and renamed Hole in the Wall. Tetsumo Party features a variety of characters that can be unlocked by completing challenges that each character has. Being a party game, up to eight players can play at one time on two controllers. Players manipulate the character’s arms and legs to put them into the right formation in order to allow the character to pass
